When it's autumn but it feels like summer!
The last couple of weeks have been blissful. I've been in dahlia heaven and I haven't had a chance to post many blooms as there has been so much to do. Some of my blooms have gone to friends and some to neighbours, and this week I've just started deadheading and starting to save seed. Hopefully not a little late but I've still seeds from last year so whatever I get this year I'll be happy with.
Pictured here is Jomanda, Sandia Sunbonnet, Formby Supreme, and Coorabell Heather.
Don't you just love their cheerful colours?

Have you met Coorabell Moonglow?
Dreamy tones with a beautiful form.
This one was bred by the Wedds in Coorabell NSW.
Coorabell dahlias have the most gorgeous form.
I'm very much in love with most of the Coorabell dahlia family. 😍

Hello gorgeous little zinnia!
This one is called Zinderella Peach! I thought it was named because of the colour but now I wonder if it's because the blush centre looks like the centre of the flesh of a peach!
These are so cute and I can't wait for further blooms.
I'll enjoy these cuties while I patiently wait for my dahlias to bloom. 🌸

My first dahlia of the season opened on Thursday, just in time for the 3 day heatwave in Sydney!
This is Cafe au Lait and she was the first one I fell in love with.
Her wavy soft petals are romantic and dreamy.
I couldn't go without her in my garden.
Happy dahlia season everyone!

Time to check on those dahlias that were either bought late as cutting plants or sown late, eek the second pic sown in Feb and they didn't get a chance to thrive. Sometimes I do this deliberately as the growing season progresses and I'm just waiting on the mature plants to bloom. I feel like sowing more seedlings, partly because I'm still new to it all and the whole dahlia world is just so fascinating to me.
I'm also happy to nurse theses babies in autumn and winter so they get tubers, but I don't encourage them to grow fast to bloom. Haven't really set up any grow tents, I'm not sure that I will as my goals are to take it slow and enjoy nature do it's thing.
I'm not in any rush, and it's lovely to see them pop up stronger the following season.

Lileah Mailman is a truly beautiful dahlia. With perfectly twisted petals for days, she is feminine and delicate with a deep colour and personality!
Bred by Kate Mungoven of she is a dream to have in the dahlia collection.
The red dahlia is a first year seedling which looks promising grown from seed from . I look forward to seeing this one again next season.

The dahlias are starting to come into their peak now after a strange season with hot, cold, windy flushes, and the usual bugs that like to munch on these delicacies!
Did you know that all parts of the dahlia are edible? From tuber to foliage to the petals, in ancient times the tubers were harvested for food! There are recipes for dahlia tuber cake and chips and petals can be scattered across cakes and desserts. Not only beautiful but functional! ❀️

Some of the dahlias shown here are Coorabell Jessie, Boundary Snowflake, Breannon, Coorabell Caitlyn, Florelie Antique, Hamari Gold, Devon Salmon, Warraview Watermelon.

Thinking of the people of Myanmar and Bangkok πŸ™
I don't know the history behind this dahlia but it is called Mandalay, and has been one of my favourites since discovering it last year. 🧑
