What a great week of racing! ⭐️

I have loved seeing all the fashion and hats over this Melbourne Cup Carnival, hope I am there next year! 🤞🏼

Felt so inspired, I went back through the archives and found one of my favourite looks. My first millinery award entry in 2014 😍 with

The photographer thought the hat would look brilliant with the back drop of an eagles wing. So he organised the resident racing eagle to pop over to the Fashions on the Field enclosure to get a photo - as you do 😆 🦅

It’s been a while since I made a hat - a bit of soul searching I suppose over this past couple of years.
But I entered the Millinery Association of Australia Design Award for 2021 and the theme is the ‘20’s - meaning either the 1820’s, 1920’s or the 2020’s or however we interpret it.

Last year when I had the time to make something, some materials were a bit scarce, shipping from overseas almost impossible (thanks Covid), so I decided to use that time to experiment with new ideas and cane is one material I have always wanted to play with. 😃

That was my ‘20’s interpretation - finding new ways of doing things during a pandemic in 2020/2021.

Top 10 Finalist! My entry to the Myer Millinery Award on Kennedy Oaks Day 2019. A big thank you to my mum for folding thousands of triangles for the base and to my wonderful friends who helped bead thousands of spikes so we could put this shape together. I’d like to thank my niece Ashley for modelling for me - her first time ever and she did a wonderful job ❤️ and to the rest of my family for all their love and support. Couldn’t have done it without you all. Xx
