FUN FACTS ABOUT THE EYES
➊ One million colours?
The human eye can distinguish approximately one million different colours — amazing, right?
➋ Upside down?
Every image that hits our retina is actually upside down. Luckily, our brain flips it so we see right-side up.
➌ The body’s fastest muscle?
The orbicularis oculi — the muscle used for blinking — is the fastest reacting, responding in less than 1/100th of a second.
➍ Lucky green?
Green eyes are the rarest natural eye colour. Only around 2% of the world’s population has them.
➎ More than just seeing?
Optometrists can detect early signs of conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and even brain tumours through eye checks. Your eyes are incredible!

Every six weeks or so we get together for a breakfast (or sometimes dinner!) meeting.

It's our chance to check in, share ideas, discuss what's happening in the practice, and make sure we're all on the same page so we can continue providing the best care for our patients.

If we're being completely honest we just love the excuse to catch up with each other over a yummy, local meal! 😉

Deafblindness is a unique disability that combines both vision and hearing loss — not always total, but enough to impact daily communication, mobility, and access to information.
It’s more common than many realise. Thousands of Australians live with some form of combined hearing and vision loss, affecting people of all ages.
People who are deafblind often develop powerful ways to connect and communicate — from tactile signing and braille to assistive technologies and tailored support. Awareness is the first step toward inclusion.
Let’s use this week to recognise and celebrate the resilience and creativity of people who are deafblind.

Today marks the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year.
As daylight fades earlier, our eyes work harder to adjust to lower light conditions.
Taking simple steps like ensuring good lighting, reducing glare and staying up to date with eye checks can help support your vision through the darker months.

If your optical extras don’t roll over, now’s the time to use them! With June 30 approaching, it’s a great opportunity to make the most of your health fund benefits.
Looking for ways to use your optical extras? A comprehensive eye test can keep your vision on track, while new glasses or trying new contact lenses can refresh how you see and feel day to day. You could evenlook at prescription sunglasses or upgrade your lenses with options like anti-reflective or blue light coatings. It’s a simple way to get more from your cover.
