Wallaroo Vacswim VACSWIM SA program provided to the Wallaroo and surrounding areas by Surf Life Saving South Australia Be in it. Swimming lessons, water safety, water survival.

Established around the 1950's, VACSWIM has become a household name in the state of South Australia. Each year, the program thousands school aged children at more than 120 locations across the state. Put simply, VACSWIM's aim is to reduce the incidence of drowning amongst the younger generations. Supported by Channel 9, Nova 919, PPI Promotion and Apparel, Life. South Australia and Enventive, the p

rogram works with key stakeholders - Office for Recreation & Sport, Royal Life Saving Society Australia - South Australia Branch and Surf Life Saving South Australia - to teach water safety and survival skills that may one day, they may save a life. Did you know that 294 people drowned between the 1st July 2020 and 30th June 2021 and that 42% of these people were under 34 years of age? If you think that this is an alarming statistic, you're not alone. On top of this, the last year has seen a 20% increase on 2019/2020 and an 8% increase on the 10-year average. Thankfully, VACSWIM exists to reduce these statistics by teaching younger generations to intervene in these unfortunate, and often life threatening situations. Wallaroo VACSWIM will be running the Higher Awards program again this summer!

Both the Water Rescues & Community Surf Rescue Certificate will develop your child's skills to recognise and assist emergency situations in and around the water. There is an opportunity for accreditation following VACSWIM for those undertaking the Community Surf Rescue Certificate.

Who & What?
- Water Rescues: for children aged 12+. Non-accredited program developing skills in performing rescues, identifying dangers, resuscitation, basic first aid, and water supervision skills.
- Community Surf Rescue: for children aged 13+. Accredited program working towards their Community Surf Rescue Certificate including CPR qualification.

Why?
The higher awards not only develop more advanced lifesaving skills, but they build confidence working in a team and under pressure. Each year, our student’s thoroughly enjoy the program, and many have since returned as Volunteers, Assistant Instructors, and even Instructors. The Community Surf Rescue Certificate is the first step toward future employment with the VACSWIM Team & we would love to see even more local children taking part in the program, and continuing on the in the Aquatics industry into the future!

We can't wait to see everyone again this summer, and welcome newcomers to our vibrant VACSWIM centre! Jump in quick, classes filling fast! In fact we have just added 3 NEW CLASSES due to high demand again this summer 🤩

We have classes for our Pre-Schoolers right through to our Higher Awards on offer! Whether it be getting confident in the water to developing skills to save a life, there is something for everyone!
