2023 Book 30 – Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood
Hazelwood has created yet another, fun romance with lots of smart banter. I loved the banter in this book and I also loved the STEM elements (STEM focused hyper smart MCs are what make Hazelwood’s books so great). I also loved this book’s depiction of a FMC with Type One Diabetes– Elsie’s struggle to afford life-saving medication made me ugly cry (as someone with a loved-one who suffers from Type One Diabetes, this book made me feel so angry at America’s healthcare systems and so grateful for the public healthcare provided in Australia). I also enjoyed the romance in this book, however, for me the ending felt a little flat and anti-climactic – I wanted something more brave from Elsie.
Content warnings: This book contains sexual content, and depictions of chronic illness (type one diabetes), sexism, death of parent, misogyny, and emotional abuse
