Description

Karabakh located in the south-west part of Azerbaijan, the Karabakh Carpet Weaving School includes mountainous and lowland areas. From the 10th century, Arabian historians Al-Mugaddasi, Masudi and others wrote that the region was cotton and wool producing hub. The famous Dutch artist Hans Memling(15th century) portrayed a Mugan-styled carpet originating from Karabakh School on his "Madonna Enthroned" painting.

The carpet has the specific quality of local wool, thick and fluffy pile which is as colorful and picturesque as the nature of Karabakh itself. There is a wide range of geometric ornaments with special meanings(Ornaments in blue are signs of ancient ethnic turks who were called "Oghuz") described on the carpet.

135cm x 165cm

Condition:
There is a tiny torn on the right side. If you wish, it can be repaired by our store(However some people may want not to repair it in order to keep its original condition). Colors are bright and the carpet looks like new.

Guba is the most fertile part of Shirvan, thickly populated and abundantly cultivated. The district consists primarily of foothills, with a relatively small coastal margin. Guba is one of the foremost rug producer in Azerbaijan.

This rug belongs to the "Guba group" and was manufactured during 1930s by an ethnic minority that is called "Lezgi". The carpet ornaments closely connected with mugham (Azeri national music). Combinations of colors can generate a wide range of shades and tones. Surrounding the main pattern elements identified with this carpet type - geometric flowers, figures, leaves - occupy the field.

Condition:
The carpet has never been used on the floor. People who owned it have used it for only wall decoration (hanging on the wall).
