The first data on the folk perception of Zmijanje is provided by Petar Kočić, and based on his research, it is located in popular understanding both as the area of a single village, Ratkovo, as the area of several villages along the stretch Kadina Voda – Čađavica, and as well as a much larger area bounded by the rivers Sana and Vrbas to the west and east, and by the mountain Kozara and the spring of the River Pliva to the north and south.
