Kalajdžisalihović design is representing the fine craftsmanship of traditional Bosnian slipper-maker family Kalajdzisalihovic. The Kalajdzisalihovic family is in the slipper-making business for generations, the first written document proving that; dates back to 1822. The name of the shop, for almost 200 years was MAK, which is the word in Bosnian language for a flower : poppy. Story behind the name
is pretty interesting: since its a family tradition, passed from father to son, there was a coincidence (or not) that only two names appeared in this correlation: Ahmed (as a father) and Muhamed (as a son), next generation would be opposite :)
so, they came up with a name, that includes first letters of the names, and the first letter of the surname; so M.A.K. The tradition is passed from father to son, for almost 200 years. Nowadays, we have several tasks on our hands:
saving the traditional slipper making craftsmanship (we are the only ones left in Bosnia and Herzegovina doing this kind of work); and inventing new, wearable and unique items, trying to combine new fashion trends with traditional craftsmanship and techniques, using only the best quality materials market have to offer.
