RMG sector faces cautious outlook amid global uncertainty: Bangladesh Bank

Bangladesh’s readymade garment sector is expected to maintain a cautiously moderate outlook in the near term, according to Bangladesh Bank. The sector earned $9.74 billion in Q2 FY26, marking a 5.99 percent decline year-on-year, reflecting weak global demand and shifting consumer spending patterns.Despite headwinds, RMG continued to dominate exports with an 80.36 percent share, underlining its critical role in the economy.

The report highlights that recovery in key markets like the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom will be vital for export growth.Bangladesh Bank emphasized the need for better logistics, higher productivity, and diversification into value-added apparel to sustain competitiveness.

Bangladesh energy import bill may rise by $4.8 billion

Bangladesh’s annual fossil fuel import bill is expected to increase by $4.8 billion, a 40 percent rise from 2025, due to the ongoing Middle East crisis, according to Zero Carbon Analytics. The country already spends around $12 billion each year on energy imports, and the surge could put pressure on foreign exchange reserves, inflation, and the local currency.

Supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz and reduced LNG shipments from Qatar are tightening fuel availability. Officials say power shortages are worsening, with about 23 percent of power plants inactive due to gas shortages, affecting industries including garments.

The situation highlights Bangladesh’s heavy dependence on imported energy and slow progress in renewable adoption, increasing economic vulnerability during global energy shocks.

The global garment industry is no longer driven by volume alone. Buyers increasingly expect speed, compliance, and real-time transparency—to know what was produced, when, where, and how.

At Kattali Textile Limited (KTL), we see end-to-end garment traceability as a necessity, not a luxury. That’s why we have partnered with StitchOS—our factory manager when our factory manager is sleeping! It’s a 24/7, several real-time monitoring AI agents, bundled in a live analytical dashboard, that tracks each and every roll of fabric that enters our factory, delivering live answers to the what, when, where, and how the garment is being produced.

Because the future of RMG belongs to manufacturers who can prove their processes, not just talk about them.
