The Department of English at Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology, Dhaka, is pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sharif Talukder to its academic community. With more than two decades of experience in higher education, teaching, academic administration, and research, Professor Talukder brings extensive expertise as an educator, academic leader, communicator, and mentor.
Professor Talukder began his academic career as a Lecturer of English in 2002 and has since progressed through a distinguished career spanning teaching and leadership positions at several universities in Bangladesh. His professional journey includes serving as Lecturer of English at North London College of Business Studies; Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the Department of English at The People's University of Bangladesh; Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of English at University of South Asia; Assistant Professor at International University of Scholars; Assistant Professor in the Department of CSE at Uttara University; Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of English at Ranada Prasad Shaha University; and Professor and academic leader at the University of Creative Technology.
At the University of Creative Technology, Professor Talukder undertook a number of significant academic and administrative responsibilities, including serving as Professor and Chairman of the Department of English and Dean of Arts and Social Science, Pro Vice Chancellor (Acting), Acting Vice Chancellor, and Treasurer, a position to which he was appointed by the People's Republic of Bangladesh. His leadership at UCTC reflects his extensive experience not only in teaching and academic administration but also in institutional management and university leadership. His career also includes service as Dean of Arts and Social Sciences at Pundra University of Science & Technology and Professor and Dean at Primeasia University.
Professor Talukder's academic and professional qualifications are equally diverse. He earned his Ph.D. in English Literature from Galgotias University, India, in 2024. He also pursued a Master's degree in English Literature at the University of Hawaii, further strengthening his academic foundation in the discipline. His academic journey includes postgraduate studies in English Literature at Islamic University, Kushtia, where he completed his MA in 1996, following a BA (Honours) in English Literature from the same university in 1995.
Beyond English Literature, Professor Talukder has also pursued professional studies in management and hospitality. He completed an MBA in Hospitality Management at the University of Sunderland and an MBA in Human Resource Management at the University of Wales. These qualifications complement his extensive academic leadership experience and reflect his multidisciplinary approach to higher education, institutional administration, and professional development.
His scholarly contributions cover a broad range of subjects in English literature, literary criticism, feminism, postcolonial studies, cultural studies, linguistics, education, and related interdisciplinary areas. His publications include research on Joseph Conrad, Chinua Achebe, William Wordsworth, John Keats, Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, Mulk Raj Anand, Nathaniel Hawthorne, computational linguistics, feminism, gender, education, and cultural sensitivity in English language teaching.
His publication record has continued to grow in recent years, including research published in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. Among his recent scholarly works are studies on Shakespearean feminism, female characters and power in Shakespeare's tragedies, computational linguistics in Shakespeare's works, gender and literary discourse, educational challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, cultural sensitivity in English language teaching, and feminist and postcolonial representations in South Asian literature.
As an educator, Professor Talukder is recognised for his strong critical and analytical abilities, effective communication and public speaking skills, student-centred approach, interpersonal skills, and commitment to fostering learning and collaboration. His professional profile also highlights his ability to explain complex material to students of varying levels and his continued enthusiasm for expanding knowledge.
