Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality.
International Women’s Day is on 8 March and this year’s theme is , encouraging people to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.
In Centro, we started our celebration by welcoming all the women employees in the celebration with a nice gift where our Leadership Team talk about the importance of embracing equity.
We have also invited Sanjida Islam Choya as a Guest of Honour. As a social activist and student from Bangladesh, Sanjida Islam Choya earned her spot on the list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2022 by BBC for her work to prevent child marriage. The child marriage rate in Bangladesh is among the highest in the world, but Sanjida Islam Choya is working to change that. Her own mother was married at a young age, but after Choya was inspired by a school presentation on the effects of child marriage, she decided to act.
Choya and her friends, teachers, and collaborators call themselves Ghashforing (Grasshoppers) and report incidents of child marriage to the police. Choya, now in university, continues to mentor Ghashforing members and continues to work with the group. So far they have reportedly prevented 50 child marriages.
She shared her inspiring story with all of our female employees on the eve of the International Women’s Day celebration which was very inspiring and heart-touching.
The celebration ended with a cake cutting.
