ফেলে দেওয়ার পরও গল্পটা শেষ হয় না।

জামাটা আর ভালো লাগছে না। হয়তো পুরোনো। হয়তো trend-এর বাইরে। হয়তো একটু ছিঁড়ে গেছে। তাই একদিন আলমারি থেকে বের করে সোজা চলে গেল ডাস্টবিনে।
তারপর? আমরা আর সেটাকে দেখি না। কিন্তু জামাটা তো হাওয়ায় মিলিয়ে যায় না। কোনো একটা জায়গায় পড়ে থাকে, কিংবা অন্য কোথাও চলে যায়। তার কাপড়, রং, সিন্থেটিক ফাইবার - সবকিছুরই একটা পরের গল্প থাকে। আর এদিকে আমরা আলমারিতে নতুন একটা জায়গা খুঁজি।
একটা জামা ফেলে দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্তটা তাই শুধু আমাদের আলমারির ব্যাপার নয়। তার আগে একবার ভাবা যায় - এটা কি সত্যিই শেষ হয়ে গেছে? নাকি আমরা শুধু আরেকটু চেষ্টা করতে চাইনি?
একটু repair করা যেত? আবার পরা যেত? অন্যভাবে পরা যেত? অন্য কারও কাজে লাগত?
সব জামার জীবন চিরদিনের নয়। কিন্তু অনেক জামার জীবন আমরাই খুব তাড়াতাড়ি শেষ করে দিই।

The story doesn't end when we throw it away.

Maybe you don't like it anymore. Maybe it's old. Maybe the trend has moved on. Maybe there's a small tear.
So one day, it leaves the wardrobe and goes into the bin. And that's usually where we stop thinking about it. But the garment doesn't simply disappear. It goes somewhere. Its fabric, dyes, fibres and everything that went into making it still exist in one form or another. Meanwhile, we make room for something new.
So before we decide that a garment has reached the end of its life, perhaps we could ask - Has it really ended? Or have we simply stopped trying? Could it be repaired? Worn differently? Altered? Passed on to someone else?
Not every garment can last forever. But perhaps we end the life of many garments long before they actually need to end.

দামটা শুধু প্রাইজ ট্যাগ এ লেখা থাকে না।

দোকানে একটা জামা দেখলেন। দামটা বেশ কম। ভাবলেন, “এত কমে হলে একটা নেওয়াই যায়।” নিলেন। পরলেন দু-একবার। তারপর হয়তো আরেকটা নতুন জামা এলো। আগেরটা আলমারিতে চলে গেল। একদিন সেটাও আর পরা হলো না।
দেখতে গেলে জামাটার দাম ছিল খুবই কম। কিন্তু জামাটা তৈরি হতে তো শুধু ওই টাকাটুকুই খরচ হয়নি। কাপড় তৈরি হয়েছে। পানি লেগেছে। রং হয়েছে। বিদ্যুৎ লেগেছে। মানুষের সময় লেগেছে। অনেকগুলো হাতের শ্রম লেগেছে। তারপর এত দূর পথ পেরিয়ে সেটা আমাদের কাছে এসেছে। শেষে আমরা সেটাকে কয়েকবার পরে ভুলে গেলাম।
তাহলে সত্যিকারের cheap কোনটা? যেটার দাম কম? নাকি যেটাকে এত কিছু দিয়ে বানানোর পরও আমরা খুব অল্পদিন ব্যবহার করলাম?
হয়তো কোনো পোশাকের আসল দাম তার প্রাইজ ট্যাগ এ নয়। তার আসল মূল্য বোঝা যায় আমরা তাকে কতটা জীবন দিলাম, কতবার ব্যবহার করলাম, তাতে।

The price tag isn't the whole price.

You see a dress. The price is surprisingly low. “It's cheap. Why not?” So you buy it. Wear it a couple of times. Something newer comes along. The dress slowly disappears into the back of your wardrobe. Eventually, you forget about it.
The dress was cheap, yes. But making it wasn't. Fabric had to be made. Water was used. It had to be dyed, cut and stitched. Machines needed energy. People spent their time and skill making it. Then it travelled all the way to you. And after all that, we sometimes give it only a handful of wears.
So what does cheap really mean? Is it something with a low price? Or is it something that took so much from the world to exist, only to be used for such a short time? Maybe the real value of a garment isn't written on its price tag. Maybe it's measured by how much life we give it or wear it.

একসময় জামা পুরোনো হতো। আর এখন trend পুরোনো হয়।

একসময় নতুন জামা কেনার খুব সহজ একটা কারণ ছিল—
জামা দরকার। তারপর fashion আমাদের জীবনের একটু বেশি কাছাকাছি এলো। নতুন নতুন style এলো, trend এলো। এতে দোষের কিছু নেই। সাজতে ভালো লাগে, নতুন কিছু পরতে ভালো লাগে—এটাই তো স্বাভাবিক।
কিন্তু কখন যেন ব্যাপারটা একটু অন্যরকম হয়ে গেল।
গত মাসে যে জামাটা পরে খুব ভালো লেগেছিল, আজ সেটাই হঠাৎ “পুরোনো”। জামাটা কিন্তু বদলায়নি। শুধু trend-টা বদলে গেছে।
আজ oversized, কাল fitted। আজ একটা colour, কাল আরেকটা। একটা trend বুঝে ওঠার আগেই আরেকটা এসে দরজায় কড়া নাড়ে।
তখন মাঝে মাঝে মনে হয়— আমরা কি সত্যিই নতুন জামা চাই, নাকি শুধু নতুন trend-টার সঙ্গে তাল মেলাতে চাই? হয়তো fashion-এর সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে চলার বদলে মাঝে মাঝে নিজের সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়েও চলা যায়।
আলমারিতে থাকা পুরোনো জামাটার দিকে আরেকবার তাকিয়ে দেখুন। হয়তো সেটা পুরোনো হয়নি। শুধু আমরা নতুন কিছুর দিকে তাকাতে তাকাতে ওটার কথা ভুলে গেছি।

There was a time when clothes became old. Now, trends do.

Once, buying a new outfit was pretty simple. You needed one. So, you bought one.
Then fashion became a bigger part of our lives.
New styles appeared, trends came and went—and there is nothing wrong with that. We like dressing up. We like trying something new. That's part of the fun.
But somewhere along the way, something changed.
The outfit we loved last month suddenly feels old. Funny thing is, the outfit hasn't changed at all.
Only the trend has.
Oversized today. Fitted tomorrow. One colour this week, another the next. Sometimes a trend barely has time to become ours before another one arrives asking for our attention.
And it makes you wonder— Do we really want something new, or have we simply learned to keep up with what's new?
Maybe fashion doesn't always have to be something we chase. Maybe, sometimes, we can just wear what we already love. Take another look at that old piece in your wardrobe. It might not be outdated at all. Maybe we've just been looking at new things for so long that we forgot to look back.

জামারও একটা গল্প থাকে।

কেউ সুতো বানায়, কেউ কাপড় বোনে, কেউ রং করে, কেউ কাটে, কেউ সেলাই করে। অনেকগুলো হাত পেরিয়ে, অনেকটা সময় নিয়ে, শেষ পর্যন্ত জামাটা এসে পৌঁছায় আমাদের আলমারিতে।
তারপর?
দু-একবার পরা হলো। নতুন কিছু এলো। পুরোনোটা আর ভালো লাগল না। ব্যস, গল্প শেষ।
কিন্তু সত্যিই কি একটা জামার গল্প এতটুকুই?
আমরা কি পোশাককে এমন কিছু বানিয়ে ফেলিনি, যেটা ব্যবহার করলাম আর ফেলে দিলাম?
হয়তো সময় এসেছে জামাগুলোকে আরেকটু গুরুত্ব দিয়ে দেখার। কারণ একটা পোশাক শুধু কাপড় নয়, এর পেছনে থাকে সময়, শ্রম, মানুষের হাত আর অনেকটা যত্ন।
জামা পরার জন্যই বানানো হয়। একবার পরে ফেলে দেওয়ার জন্য নয়। গল্পটা সেখান থেকেই শুরু হয়।

Every garment has a story.

Someone made the yarn. Someone wove the fabric. Someone dyed it, cut it, stitched it.
After passing through many hands and taking much more time than we usually imagine, it finally finds its way into our wardrobe.
And then?
We wear it a few times. Something newer comes along. The old one suddenly feels... old.
And just like that, the story ends.
But should it?
Somewhere along the way, have we started treating clothes like things meant to be used once and forgotten?
Maybe it's time we looked at our clothes a little differently. Because a garment is never just fabric. It carries time, labour, skilled hands and care.
Clothes are made to be worn. Not worn once and forgotten.
And perhaps, this is where the story begins.

দিনের শেষ আলোকচ্ছটা যখন ধীরে ধীরে সরে যায়, আকাশের গায়ে নামে সন্ধ্যার গাঢ় আঁধার। আর তার শেষ কমলা আভাটুকু যেন থেকে যায় কোথাও। এই পোশাকে সেই ক্ষণিক সন্ধ্যাকেই ধরে রাখার চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে। কালোর গভীরে, শেষ বিকেলের উষ্ণ আলোকচ্ছটায়।

সময়ের সঙ্গে কিছু জিনিস মলিন হয়,
আবার কিছু জিনিসের সৌন্দর্য সেখানেই আরও গভীর হয়ে ওঠে।
এই পোশাকটি সেই পুরোনো দিনের মায়া থেকেই সৃষ্ট -
সহজ, স্বচ্ছন্দ, অথচ প্রতিটি সেলাইয়ে যত্নের ছাপ।

A little update from JONAK 🤍
We’ve been away from the page for quite a while, but we weren’t really away from work. We took some time to rethink the page, make a few changes, and work on some new ideas and designs behind the scenes.
Now, we’re finally ready to start again.
JONAK is becoming PRATOH Daily, and this page will continue as our only page.
Along with PRATOH Daily, we’re also introducing PRATOH Tale. While PRATOH Daily will focus on our everyday and festive pieces, PRATOH Tale will be a space for some of our more premium, experimental, and story-driven creations.
The idea is to give both sides of our work their own space while keeping them under the same house — PRATOH.
For now, we won’t be opening a separate page for PRATOH Tale. But you’re welcome to visit PRATOH Daily and PRATOH Tale on Instagram as well.
The people behind the brand and what we want to create haven’t changed. We’re simply giving everything a better structure.
Some old posts will be gone. Some of those pieces will be moved to PRATOH Tale, and a few older designs may come back later in a more refined version, along with our new work.
We’ve also kept some posts with the old JONAK name and logo because we didn’t want to erase where we started or the version of JONAK that brought us here. We’ll be posting new pieces again very soon, so stay around.
And most importantly, thank you for being with us throughout this whole journey — from JONAK to PRATOH. Your support has been a part of every step, and we’re excited to have you with us for what comes next.
