Read this inspiring story from a mother whose son has been living with epilepsy for years. From unexplained falls to finding protection that gave her peace of mind, her experience highlights the challenges many families face every day. 👇🏼❤️
"I share my son's story because epilepsy, a neurological disorder, is often overlooked or not talked about enough.
Back in 2010, when my son was in fifth grade, he would sometimes fall in the shower for no apparent reason. This happened numerous times, and I didn't know what was going on. I thought a tub mat would prevent him from slipping, but as time went on, he had his first seizure in high school gym class in 2015.
Then, a week later, he had a second seizure, and so on. By then, he had been diagnosed with epilepsy. More falls followed.
Now, my son is 27 years old and still has these crazy falls.
Three years ago, someone referred me to Amazon, where I found Ribcap Helmets. I thought, "Wow, finally, something to protect my son's head!" I bought two of them, and honestly, they are pretty good. They look like beanies; you would never know they are actual helmets designed to protect the head.
The only thing I wish is that the company would come up with more options for summer, like lighter materials for this protective headgear. It gets really hot wearing it in the summer, but other than that, it has really saved my son's life.
Without this helmet, he would have had many more hospital visits.
He has been diagnosed with a severe seizure disorder called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, and as I write this, he has just had surgery with an RNS implanted in his skull to help stop the seizures.
I recommend these hats to everyone. I've shown them to many medical staff to recommend to their patients because often people don't know where to find one!
So, yes, I recommend them to anyone inquiring about protecting their head from injury.
Thank you for allowing me to share my son's story!"
