The Alden Plain Toe Blucher in Horween Shell Cordovan #8 or 990 is the most iconic Alden shoe and for good reasons. A minimalist whole-cut design makes these super sleek and versatile while the wider Barrie last provides a comfortable fit and rounded toe. A shoe that can easily be dressed up or down.
Following New England, USA shoemaking traditions the shoes are handmade in Massachusetts using the finest leathers and Goodyear welted soles which ensures an ergonomic fit as the shoe molds to the foot and allows the shoe to be resoled over time.
A key part of these shoes is the Horween Shell Cordovan leather that is used. The leather is produced by the Horween Tannery in Chicago. Shell Cordovan leather is an extremely durable, scuff-resistant leather that takes a high shine. It comes from an oval-shaped ligament from the flank of a horse buttocks, which gives it unique properties. The tanning process for Horween Shell Cordovan is complex and takes at least six months to complete. The time and skill required for the tanning process really make it into one of the most sought after leathers in the world. As the leather does not hold colour like other leathers it's only available in limited colors, mainly Color #8, a deep burgundy and black. While other brown tints make up the elusive Exotic Cordovan colors
Over time the Cordovan gets a rich patina, the creases and colour become personal. When cared for correctly it's a shoe designed to last generations.
