This was a true labour of love. The second I saw Wicked Movie Glinda & Fiyero's costumes by the amazing Paul Tazewell I was obsessulated. It took me months and months to replicate the beading, the intriquite jacket, the colours of the skirt and the dramatic wand. I was hand sewing beads, using a plotter for the first time, learning how to 3D print and how to style (and wear!) a wig, all in the span of 10 months!
Here we are, as Glinda and Fiyero Elftopia Fantasy Fest last month.
Notice how Glenn is sporting the Oz logo at this hip, which also works as a functional bag! His jacket features 50(!) buttons, all individually sewn on by hand.
I tried to match the trim on Fiyero's jacket as much as I could, so I went for this trim from Hoofs Stoffen & Fournituren. The jacket alone needed 10m! The shoulder epaulettes are the first 3D models I modeled myself and printed with my amazing Creality K2 printer!
To create the colouring in Glinda's skirt, I sourced 2 different pastel rainbow gradient tulles and layered them. One is with glitter (of course), and one without. The swirl bubble patterns are ironed on with vinyl cut out by my Cricut België & Nederland
The bodice is covered in all kinds of beads, sequins and hotfix rhinestones. I used screenshots of the movie to generally follow the shapes. However, Ariana is a lot more petite than I am, so I took some liberties with filling up some areas more than others.
Please note how my Fiyero is actually carrying a gun. As it was hard to find proper images from the movies, and I don't have that kind of modeling skills (yet), I opted to paint a water gun that had just the right vibes shape-wise. It's really functional!
My dear friend Caitlin was kind enough to help me out with printing the parts I needed for Glinda's wand, before I invested in my own printer. Assembly was done by me, with a frustrating amount of hot glue and hotfix rhinestones.
Glinda's flounces were a challenge in itself. I couldn't find a fabric stiff and see-through enough with the exact right lavender colour, so I encased bits of plastic from old file binders in the same tulle as the sleeves. It was very finick
