Focus on flattering. ✨

Re-hemming three jersey layering tops for a client who knows what works for her: a curved hem for a more flattering silhouette. These were gifted pieces with great potential — they just needed a subtle tweak to help her feel her best.

In this reel you’ll see the process: marking the new curve, cutting, stabilising with interfacing + pressing so the hem doesn’t flare, then finishing it off so it looks like it “came like that”.

Little reminder: off-the-rack is made to fit most, not you specifically. If something feels a bit meh, there are usually simple, subtle ways to tailor it into a proper glow-up.

Alteration bliss. ✨

This started as a floor-length ball gown in bias-cut satin + chiffon (aka: slippery, shows-every-mistake fabric)… and we transformed it into a cocktail-length dress that’s still glamorous, but way more wearable.

In this reel you’ll see me hand sew in bust shaping cups on the inside for extra smoothness and support without messing up the drape, then mark the new length, stabilise the bias with a water-soluble starch interfacing strip, baste, overlock, and shorten the underskirt to match. Clean, secure, and honestly… flawless.

My first run-in with a bias-cut dress like this was the stuff of nightmares. Now I’ve nailed the process and I’m extremely smug about it.

Mending hard. 😅

If you noticed I was a bit behind on posting last week… this is why. I came off my motorbike and I’ve been stumbling around like a tiny T‑rex in a sling. I’m sore, but I’m on the mend — nothing a bit of rest now and physio later won’t sort out.

In the meantime, here’s some joy: Courtney out in the wild in her upcycled denim punk Avril Lavigne skirt, plus the custom upcycled gloves. Seeing my work being worn like this is genuinely the best medicine.

Sensory top teamwork 🤝💜

My client started lining this scratchy top to make it warmer and actually comfortable to wear. She got the body lined beautifully… then hit the sleeves and the project turned into one of those “I can’t look at this anymore” moments.

So she brought me the top + lining fabric and I finished it off: measured, marked and cut the sleeve lining, overlocked the seams, inserted and attached the sleeves to the lined body with a neat armhole finish, then finished the internal cuffs so everything sits flat and feels good when you move.

Project finished, frustration gone, comfy top unlocked.

Skinny jeans nobody wants anymore… turned into a punk skater skirt I’m genuinely obsessed with.

This is the follow-up to my curtain toile: two op shop pairs got broken down and rebuilt into a one-of-one denim skirt with peekaboo paisley, a stack of eyelets for extra attitude, and THREE pockets using the original jeans features (because I refuse to live without pockets).

Upcycling is my favourite kind of problem-solving: keep the best bits, ditch the bad fit, and end up with something fun enough to actually wear.

Fun snack pocket. 🌈

This high-quality grey raglan henley had a small stain, so I covered it with a giant snack pocket upgrade — featuring a textured rainbow “RIOTS NOT DIETS” patch backed with fun purple fabric. It’s secured with two snaps at the top, so you can fit many snacks… or no snacks. You could honestly fit a kitten in there.

Stain gone, personality upgraded.

Damo’s taking this one to market, and tiny Prada the cute doggy clearly approves.

Felted To Funky 🖤

I accidentally shrunk and felted a sentimental wool jumper… and then kept trying to wear it like it hadn’t betrayed me. But the felted texture sat weird and the wool was so scratchy that my sensory system said “absolutely not” every single time.

So I stopped forcing it and made it work. I grabbed a basic black cardigan that gave me no joy (but the softness is great) and mashed the two together to create a cute little layering piece: soft, wearable base + sentimental felted panels as the feature.

This is the kind of upcycling I love — not “keep it forever but never wear it”… more like “keep the meaning, change the form.”

Custom fingerless gloves 🧤

My client loved the idea of a pair I already own, but needed them bigger and more her style — so I made a custom set using an old cardigan that was giving me absolutely no joy and never got worn.

This was a proper “measure, test, make it up as I go” project: sleeves off, sizing adjusted, then the fiddliest part — the thumb hole. Lots of tiny stitching to stabilise the knit so it doesn’t roll, stretch, or tear, then shaping and finishing so the seams sit flat and feel comfy on skin.

One-of-one, warm, practical, and made to fit.

School Save ✅

Uniforms take a beating, so this reel is a two-part rescue:

1) Letting out the side seams on a uniform piece to add real, usable room (then pressing it flat so it looks clean and intentional) + hand-sewing a button back on.

2) Fixing PE shorts that split at the crotch seam by reinforcing the area, stitching it down securely, and overlocking for strength and a tidy finish.

End result: comfy, wearable school kit again — and no need to buy a brand new set just because of a split seam or a growth spurt.
