The Plantation

Malhas Martins helps the farmers and their families have a better life when they join the project and cultivate Organic Cotton. Organic Cotton is planted, cultivated, kept and then transported with all necessary care. An Organic Cotton plantation causes no pollution to the rivers, lakes and the earth. ause they do not need to use pesticides or any other chemical products. That helps them to get a better living and provide a quality education for their children. Our project helps both people and environment bringing a high quality product with no harm to the nature. The Spinning

The making of the Organic Cotton yarn is different from the making of the conventional cotton ones. We do not use paraffin despite of being permitted by the regulation of GOTS. But as we want a real organic product we can not use tenside to wash the paraffin from the yarn. The development was very difficult and complex but it was worthy and the result showed us we were right. Our Colors

The essence of our colors is made out of plants and minerals developed by the Xingu (a Brazilian Indian tribe). We use Pau-brasil (redwood) and stone slime to color our clothes naturally. It was a very complex process to industrialize but necessary to get to get a standard that is proofed for the fastness – requirements in tests in laboratories in Brazil and Germany with good results.

Vantagens do algodão orgânico para o ambiente:

Produtores de algodão que fazem a transição para práticas de cultivo a base biológica esperam não apenas oferecer um produto saudável e mais limpo, mas também para beneficiar o planeta. Algumas das contribuições para os diferentes ecossistemas incluem:

- Proteger a qualidade da superfície e as águas subterrâneas (eliminando contaminantes no escoamento superficial)
- Redução do risco de insetos e controle de doenças, substituindo inseticida com a manipulação dos ecossistemas
- Prevenção de pragas através da plantação de habitat benéfico.
- Conservação da biodiversidade
- Elimina o uso de produtos químicos tóxicos usados no algodão
- Culturas cultivadas organicamente também rendem solos com maior teor de matéria orgânica, profundidade espessa na camada superior do solo, maior teor de polissacarídeo, e menor módulo de ruptura; o que, reduz consideravelmente a erosão do solo.

Advantages of ORGANIC COTTON TO THE ENVIRONMENT:

Cotton growers who make the transition to biologically based growing practices expect not only to offer a healthier and cleaner product, but also to benefit the planet. Some of the contributions to the different ecosystems include:

- Protecting surface and groundwater quality (eliminating contaminants in surface runoff)
- Reduced risk in insect and disease control by replacing insecticide with the manipulation of ecosystems
- Long-term prevention of pests through beneficial habitat planting.
- Conservation of biodiversity
- Eliminate the use of toxic chemicals used in cotton
- Organically grown crops also yield soils with higher organic matter content, thicker topsoil depth, higher polysaccharide content, and lower modulus of rupture; therefore reducing considerably soil erosion.
