Pip & Pin

Pip & Pin Megan Nodecker is a knitwear designer and instructor passionate about empowering knitters to create wardrobe staples they love to wear.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, and the constant grey skies have inspired a deep love of cozy knitwear. I started to design patterns in 2010, and my main focus has always been on casual wardrobe staples, the things you'd want to wear every day! Over the past few years, I have also started to teach classes on knitting, knitwear design and running a knitwear design business.

There’s still time to join me at the Knit Happy Summit, where I’ll be teaching a class on how to perfectly place your sleeves — today!

We’ll talk about what a sleeve placement adjustment is, how to determine whether it’s something you might want to try, and how to do this modification on a variety of sweater styles.

Plus, you’ll have access to 25+ more videos from other instructors on how to take you knitting beyond the basics.

I know myself much to well to commit to the full experience, but seeing others handmade outfits has inspired me to document a few handmade items of mine that I’ve been wearing this week 🥰

1/ An oldie that I pulled out of deep storage this year, The Main Street Tee knit with (which got a good steam after this picture to take care of that fold line 🙈)

2/ My go-to layer in the spring and fall, Maema DK made with with a bonus matching coffee cup

3/ And my so-good-I-made-it-twice Catbells Cardigan knit in .

Which one is your favourite?

I started working on a new project - the Cari Top by .knits - and it’s one of those things that I just can’t seem to put down!

I’m using three balls of stash yarn to make this striped summer tank. Fingers crossed it’s enough! 🤞🤞

And what about all those ends? Well, I decided to change the pattern a bit and will be adding applied I-cord to all edgings so I can just tuck those away inside the I-cord and no one will be the wiser.

(And since taking these photos yesterday, I’ve already finished the second strap AND joined the fronts and back together - at this rate I’ll be wearing this by the end of the week! 😄)

What spring project are you working on?

A few weeks ago we got a new (to us) adventure car, and it’s been so fun getting back out, having campfires, watching beavers, drawing birds, and knitting, of course.

I suspect fire bans will be happening earlier than usual this year, so we’ve got to get them in while we can!

A new episode of the Pip and Pin Podcast just dropped and I’m this episode I share my newest FO - my Paul Klee Sweater!

After a little bit of struggle with the neckline, I’m so happy to have this sweater off the needles, and with the spring weather hitting this week it’s absolutely perfect timing 🥰

I just wanted to pop in and let you know that I hadn’t realized my Facebook messages for this account had been turned on. I have not been monitoring this account, so unfortunately that means if you sent me a message I very likely have not read it. I apologize if you’ve had an issue that I haven’t addressed!

I will try to get through as many as I can today but it’s messy in there 😬

If you have a question or comment that I have not responded to, please, please reach out to me via the email listed.

Thank you!
Megan

I’m going to be 100% honest here and say this did NOT happen purposefully but was a happy little accident.

BUT did you know that if you’re having a hard time picking colours, for stripes, colourwork, colourblocking, etc, it can be extremely helpful to take a photo of your colours and switch it to black and white?

This shows you the colour value, or how light or dark a colour truly is (which isn’t always easy to see when we’re just looking at the colour itself!) This can help highlight contrast, and help you choose whether you want colours that are low contrast, with all the values being similar, or high contrast, with the value being different.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this lovely little gradient of values when I looked at this picture in black and white, and it’s no surprise to me now why I love the order of these colours so much 🌈
