Nerdy Needles Nerd-tastic handmade items, knitting, crochet, inspired by comic books, sci-fi and fantasy. My mom taught me to knit when I was about 6.

When I was in university, two of my friends were very accomplished knitters -- one with sweaters and one with afghans. With their coaching and a "learn to knit" book, I increased my skill. Then with the explosion in popularity of crocheted beanies, I wanted to learn to make them for my children, so I decided to teach myself crochet in 2014. I've always enjoyed creating gifts for family and friends

, and occasionally selling a baby afghan. It wasn't until we were at Ottawa ComicCon in May 2014 and people kept asking me where I bought my daughter's R2D2 beanie that I realized I could turn my hobby into a business.
