Sargassum, a type of seaweed with an unusual name, is causing significant disruptions to beach ecosystems, primarily in Mexico right now. This photo was taken in tulum Mexico 6 days ago.

What is driving the widespread proliferation of this foul-smelling seaweed globally?

Google research cites global warming as the primary cause. Since we are miles away from the Mexican Riviera, it is tempting to view this issue as someone else's concern.

Sargassum and shrinking beaches are rapidly changing our beach experiences.
To address this, Fabric Bag Solution Sewing Group continues to collaborate with teachers to promote awareness in the classroom.

Students receive one of our bags in hopes they become stewards of this precious planet.

Our volunteer group focuses on sewing tote bags to donate to BC communities to raise awareness about textile and plastic pollution. Many of our volunteers are also passionate gardeners with beautiful gardens.

Spreading love, hope and compassion to those affected in Ukraine. This weekend, 80 of our eco-friendly upcycled bags will be heading to Ukraine to support those in need.

A very happy grade 2/3 have a tangible reminder of their sustainability lessons earlier this week - made by our amazing talented volunteers!

Our volunteer group loves working with teachers who are also passionate about the future of our planet. Students learn how their actions make a difference and receive a an upcycled bag - an unique bag, that is a fun and colourful way to store their extra clothes at school and also reminds them that one person’s actions can lead to positive change.

Earth day April 22, 2026 is fast approaching

Hundreds of our up-cycled bags are being donated to eco minded teachers in BC this Earth Day, thanks our amazing volunteer sewing group!

Sitting around waiting for world leaders to make laws, by-laws, pass acts of legislation and/or waiting for multimillionaires to donate money to stop or drastically slow down global warming is not working.

Our volunteer sewing has been addressing textile and plastic pollution thru Education and provides inspiration for people to take action.

Let’s take matters in our own hands and bring about positive change in the world and slow global warming.

We have been sewing up-cycled bags to donate into the community since 2019 and we are just a small group of volunteers.

We are out in the community today talking to students about solutions to textile pollution and global warming.

love and generosity is the antidote to the hatred and greed that is fueling climate change and war.

War is not the solution. Compassion, understanding and love is the answer. Speak up, show up. We all need to protect our incredibly beautiful planet and all its inhabitants.
