Happy Valentine’s Day! Let’s talk about love. This is love. A labour of love. With some major help, I finished this Blackfoot style women’s pipe bag a couple months back, and let me say, for a first time making anything of the likes of this, I was over the moon with how it turned out. This is a very special piece to me, and will someday hopefully be transferred to someone else so that medicine may live on for a very long time 🖤🌹💌❤️‍🔥

A big break from social media can be good for the soul. The last 6 months have been transformative for me in ways I couldn’t imagine. I feel connected to myself and life around me more than I ever have. I’m so lucky I can say that I live a beautiful, connected life. But I do keep most of that life to myself. Those who see me, do and that is more than enough for me. But I’m coming back. I am coming back to this business and page online. I’m dedicated to post more and connect with this community online again, because quite frankly, I miss it. Thank you to everyone who kept supporting me and checking up on me. I see you.
I made a real of the process…I know a shocker to me too! This pair of earrings was a really special pair that I made for . This was made to complete a ribbon skirt trade. Cheyenne made the prettiest ribbon skirt for me, that more than exceeded my expectations. I’m very particular about what I wear, and she made a skirt that felt like 100% me. If you’re in the Calgary/Tsuut’ina area, please, please check her out. These tufted turtle earrings happen to be one of the most challenging pairs I ever done, if not the most due to the delicate nature of caribou tufting. I ain’t no quitter though so I pushed through and am I glad I ever did 🐢🌎🪶💜

Excited for this coming up on Monday 🥰 This will be my second year attending.

Excited for this coming up on Monday 🥰 This will be my second year attending.

Today, we're showcasing La Montagnaise Creations, an Innu / Montagnais artist!

Here's the artist's statement:
"Kuei! My name is Alexandra Amélia. I am born and raised on the traditional territory of the Niitsitapi in Mohkinstsis (Calgary), however my traditional lands (Nitassinan) are out East in the province of so-called Québec. I am a 31-year-old mixed Innu/Montagnais and French-Canadian artist and beader. I started beading in 2020 when I was involved with the Indigenous Student Council at the University of Calgary. Each bead is applied with purpose and medicine, inspired by the strong matriarchs of my family. I am a one-woman run and owned business which is named after my Nukum who was a proud Montagnaise ishkueu (woman). I resource most of my materials from Indigenous businesses, and much like my Nukum, I am proud to carry this artform with me and I hope they bring you as much medicine as they do for me. My creations are inspired by my roots and are meant to be worn and appreciated by all as every single creation is handmade with love, inclusivity and reciprocity. Enjoy!"

Visit La Montagnaise Creations at our Indigenous Heritage Market on July 1st!

I also have a quite a few of the products left: earrings, lanyards and glasses straps so if you are interested in getting something...you know where to find me!

Posting these babies today. Did these for someone who gave me a coral necklace for reference and my imagination for the rest. Love these types of orders. Can’t believe that I’ve been beading for three years now and it’s still medicine everyday. I hope everyone is taking care of themselves and taking in Mother Nature these summer months. It’s time so be kinder to yourself 🧡🌺🪸🍂

Genuine question, is it yahoo or yeehaw? It’s that time of the year as the Calgary Stampede looms over the horizon. Wether you love it or hate it, the Stampede has undeniably become part of this areas most notorious time of the year. I personally quite enjoy the Stampede, mainly for the Elbow River Camp powwow and the Indigenous talent that’s displayed. I will also add that this summer I’ve been able to land a job with the Calgary Stampede as curatorial assistant for their new museum. So here’s to new things and the love of cow prints🐄🤠🤎🪩

A lovely little pair to post today! I made this pair about a year ago and loved creating something different for this client 🥰 As some of you may have seen, I did my first ever market for this buisness yesterday in downtown Calgary. The prep for that was immense and asked a lot of me, which is why I’ve been quiet on here. But I promise to start posting again! Tshinashkumitin, thank you to you all who have stuck around and to those who keep supporting lil’ ol me! I’m proud of what I’ve come to create with this one woman run business and to share this medicine is so humbling 🧡🌼🔥🍓
