Tip Tuesday… We had a function to attend on Saturday and I needed a gift. Normally, I have quilts in the studio I can give away . This time I had to make a quilt from start to finish. Lucky for me I have an IKEA storage container that’s filled with 2 1/2 inch squares . I didn’t need to cut anything. All I had to do was sew , press , sew , press & put together.. everything was scraps, including the backing. I pieced left over fireside. Does it match no but again does it have to? It’s a scrap quilt.. the young couple loved it. So tip Tuesday use your scraps and if it’s possible have them cut to the same size. Also have a couple of quilts done to gift . When people know you quilt they expect a quilt as a gift …. Just saying .

Tip Tuesday… My quilting friend Deb can no longer piece the way she used to. She doesn’t have the capability due to medical and health issues . There’s lots of things she no longer can do, but she loves to quilt, so I convinced her that rather than me making her baby quilts for her grandbabies, she should make them and if they’re not perfect, they’re not perfect, but she made them . Sometimes Things don’t come easy and we do need to pivot . Pivoting isn’t a crime so tip of the day pivot. And I’m always here if you need help finding a new grove !

Tip Tuesday… okay I’m late but better late than never. When sewing salvage edges together allow an inch for joining. Then cut down to 1/4 inch . The salvage shrinks differently . And it could become an issue when washing the quilt. Better safe than sorry.

What the heck… which one did it can you guess? I dropped a spool of thread. It survived one minute on my floor. Place your bets people was it Jack or Gizmo . Guess I need to clean up the studio.

Tip Tuesday… when the Longarmer asks to have your backing larger than your quilt by 4” to 6” inches there is a reason. Even if you’re quilting it, your back should be larger than your quilt because when you quilt it you eat up fabric .

Tip Tuesday… Quilting can change how your quilt reads. This quilt doesn’t say baby quilt, but by changing the quilting, it now reads like a little boy’s quilt. I can see a little boy loving this quilt !
