Beautiful Rafael brass ring with red Murano glass stone $50.00.

In his heyday, Alfandary Rafael's designs were worn by such celebrities as Margaret Trudeau, Lorne Green, Liberace, Muhammad Ali, Redd Foxx and Paul Anka. With chunky textures and heavy lines it is the opposite of dainty and was worn by men and women alike. Alfandary created the crown for the 1973 Miss Canada beauty pageant. He lived in hip Yorkville and enjoyed a creative partnership with designer Marilyn Brooks and participated in her fashion shows. He was at the centre all that was grooving in Toronto at the time.
Rafael Alfandary is probably the best known of Canadian Modernist jewellery designers. He was born in Belgrade and trained as a mechanical engineer in Israel. He moved to Toronto in the 70s. Here he took an English as a Second Language course at George Brown and as a thank-you present for a teacher, he made his first necklace. He's best known for his work with Murano glass and brass and Kinetic elements. Although some of his rarer work is in silver. Most of his pieces have a handmade appearance. Alfandry died in Toronto on May 24, 2005. Before his death, Prince wore one of his creations to the People's Choice Award.
