Mission Thrift Store

Mission Thrift Store BFM Foundation (Canada) and its member stores are a voluntary, non-denominational Christian organization operating thrift stores across Canada.

The volunteers that make up BFM are the true driving force behind its success. BFM relies heavily on the work of volunteers, and without their regular contributions, BFM would not be nearly as successful in reaching its goals. Volunteering is a healthy way to “give back” our time, which is one of the most valuable resources we can give especially in today’s fast-paced society. Most people voluntee

r with the intention of making an impact on others, but in fact they themselves are the ones who are most impacted by their service. Among the many benefits of volunteering is better health through activity, the acquisition of new skills, social interaction with other people, and most of all, the ability to have fun while make a difference. The goal of the BFM Foundation (Canada) is to create a safe and healthy environment that appeals to volunteers, and is a place where it is fun to serve and give of your time. Some of our volunteers come for an hour, while others come for a day or even several days on end. Any amount is greatly appreciated. It’s totally up to you to decide how much time you want to give! Another great aspect of volunteering at a BFM Thrift Store is the vast array of jobs and roles that take place every day. Each volunteer is encouraged to find an area that suits their skill set and interests. Here are some of the popular roles in a BFM thrift store:

Board Director
Volunteering Coordinator
Sorting & Recycling
Tagging
Display
Delivery and Pick-up
Cashiering
Customer Assistance
Stocking and Hanging
Public Relations
Repair person (furniture, small appliance, electrical, computer)

BFM Foundation (Canada) also encourages each store to open their day in prayer and devotion which allows time for community building to occur, while ensuring God is the focus of what we are doing. Most of our volunteers agree that their decision to volunteer with BFM was a rewarding experience which is why many continue to work in our stores even today. If you want to give of your time and make a real difference in your community, consider lending a hand at one of our stores today!

Thrift friends, I’m sorry for how I communicated yesterday. I have been frustrated at the increasing theft and dumping that’s happening at our store lately, but I let my emotions get the better of me. I think it’s proper that I make our community aware of the problem so it might stop, but it’s our job to manage it as best we can. Again I apologize for my post and will be more constructive in my communication with you in the future.

Sincerely,
Marg S.
