As August comes to an end, so too does Sock Pedaling Month! 🧦

The goal was a rather ambitious 6 pairs a day… 186 pairs! 😳

Sadly, that pesky day job, along with a few other commitments, had the audacity to interfere with my sock-making domination. 😂 So yes, I fell a wee bit short of the original goal.

BUT…

I’m still doing the happy-clappy sock dance because I managed to pedal out a whopping…

103 PAIRS OF SOCKS!!!

That’s 206 individual socks for anyone counting! 🤪🧦

WOOOOHOOOOO! 🎉

Not 186 pairs, but I’m calling 103 pairs a pretty darn fabulous August considering there were only 6 pairs in stock to begin the month!

…. On to weaving!!!

What an incredible gal! It was so fantastic to have Angie at the studio along with her family!

So it’s not all fun with fibre at The Barn Studio!

Terry’s 1903 Defiance Copying Lathe was put to work, turning out tomahawk handles from some absolutely gorgeous tiger maple for our amazing forging friend, Butch.

There’s something pretty darn satisfying about watching a 123-year-old machine still doing exactly what it was built to do… and doing it beautifully!

Old iron + tiger maple + a little Barn Studio horsepower.
Not a strand of yarn in sight! 😎

Back in the saddle… or should I say, back at the sock machine seat!

After a whirlwind and absolutely incredible visit from Angie Parker Angie Parker Textiles/Rugs., (more pics coming soon!), I’m back to pedalling socks!

The August goal is/was 186 pairs by month end. 😳
A few other commitments have slowed the sock factory down a wee bit, but hey… the month isn’t over yet!

One of our A.P. participants and good friend Lisa surprised me with this glorious skein of sock yarn from the Twist Festival.

And GLORIOUS may be an understatement.

This eyeball-burning beauty is by Crazy About Yarn - and is now officially becoming a pair of Collingwool Socks, for MEEEE! 🤪

One thing is certain:
I will NOT get cold feet… or be lost in a snowstorm wearing these babies! 😂

Back to pedalling. That 186 isn’t going to make itself! 😳

What an AMAZING and totally inspirational day at The Barn Studio today!

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the wonderfully talented Angie Parker Angie Parker Textiles/Rugs. for a day bursting with colour, creativity, textiles and inspiration!

And can we talk about how far some of you travelled?! Peterborough… Cornwall… OTTAWA!!! 😲 You packed up and hit the road to spend the day with us, and that is just crazy exciting!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came, shared in the excitement, asked questions, laughed, learned and filled the studio with such fabulous creative energy.

And Angie, thank you for making The Barn Studio a stop on your Canadian travels. What a treat. What a day. What an inspiration! 💕

I think our creative batteries are officially OVERCHARGED!

Nothing screams “GET YOUR GIDDY UP ON!” quite like knowing a flat-out AMAZING and wildly inspirational guest is coming to The Barn Studio this week!

I may be just a wee bit excited.

Okay… ridiculously excited. 😂

The studio is getting spiffed up, the studio sign got a paint job, and the creative juices are bubbling - there’s a whole lot of COLOUR about to walk through that barn door.

Any guesses who’s coming????

Earlier this summer, my good friend Kim took a Lino Block Printing class at John C. Campbell Folk School. The grand plan was simple: I’d weave the fabric, Kim would carve the garlic block. 🧄

Well… plans changed.

Soooo yesterday I decided, how hard can it be? and carved my very own garlic bulb block!

And here we are… handwoven garlic bags! Each one is woven in cotton, finished with an inkle-woven tape drawstring, and hand printed with my freshly carved garlic block.

Handwoven. Hand carved. Hand printed. And ready to keep your bulbs fresh! 🧄🖤

Sometimes Plan B turns out to be almost as much fun as Plan A!

Oooooweeee… gotta love a long weekend! 😅

🧄 7 yards of cotton/linen woven off for garlic bags

Apparently my idea of a “long weekend” is just squeezing an extra week’s worth of work into three days! 😂

Whew… I’m tired just typing it!

Do you know what month it is??? 🧦🧦🧦

It’s SOCK PEDALING MONTH!

For the month of August, I officially ban myself from the looms and turn my attention to the sock machine.

Okay… “ban” might be a little ambitious. There may be a wee bit of weaving sneaking in. 😂

But the goal is set:
6 pairs of socks. Every. Single. Day. 😳

The sock yarn has been gathered, the machine is ready, and judging by this colourful mountain of socks, I’d better get pedaling!

August goal: 186 pairs!

Let the Great Sock-a-Palooza begin!
