We rely heavily on consignment to keep The Retro Room looking fresh, with new and exciting pieces coming in from local closets every day!
But there’s another side to The Retro Room that you might not see as much the pieces that Matt and I source ourselves.
We’re constantly on the hunt for rare, unique vintage clothing, furniture and treasures that we think deserve another life. And quite often, finding them is only the beginning!
Vintage clothing may need to be washed, mended and carefully treated to remove decades-old staining. Furniture is sanded back, repaired and re-stained, and many upholstered pieces need new fabric or more extensive restoration.
All of this takes a lot of time and work, and sometimes that’s reflected in the price. That being said, we try very hard to keep our prices accessible and reasonable while still accounting for the work that goes into bringing these pieces back to life.
Our goal has always been to offer clothing that is fun and one-of-a-kind while also helping preserve pieces that can be 50, 80 or even 100+ years old.
The same goes for furniture. Antique & vintage furniture was built to last, but after decades of use it can understandably become worn or damaged. By restoring it, we hope to keep another beautiful piece out of the landfill and give someone the opportunity to own something well made that can hopefully last for decades longer.
For us, vintage isn’t just about selling old things. It’s about preserving, repairing and reusing.
Anyways, that’s my rant for today 😂 If you made it this far, comment RESTORE below & share this post for a chance to win a $25 Retro Room gift card!
