This piece represents the Seven Sacred Teachings — guiding values that encourage us to live in balance with ourselves, our communities, and the natural world. Through the animals surrounding the central warrior shield, Zane honours the teachings of:

🐺 Mlkna – Bravery
🐢 Tetpaqaq – Truth
🦶 Koqajq’teken – Honesty
🦬 Kepmite’teken – Respect
🦫 Nsituo’qn – Wisdom
🐻 Wanqwajite’teken – Humility

At the centre, the warrior shield symbolizes strength, protection, resilience, and the responsibility of carrying these teachings throughout our lives. The circular design reflects the interconnectedness of all living beings and reminds us that learning and growth are lifelong journeys.

During National Indigenous History Month, we celebrate the knowledge, values, and teachings that have guided Indigenous Peoples for generations and continue to strengthen communities today.

How it works: Look for the “Happy to Chat” decals in seating areas throughout Mic Mac Mall. Sit in that seating area if you don’t mind someone stopping by to say hello. If you see someone already sitting there, they’re ready to chat!

Join the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre for their annual MMIWG2S+ Memorial March, hosted by the Violence Prevention and Human Trafficking Program.
