When I took marketing in school, I learned about servicescapes, the environment where services are delivered, which enhance the buying experience for customers.
Basically, everything about the experience from start to finish, must be in alignment with your product and / or service.
However, if we take this concept to our home sanctuary, it reinforces our homespace and our ability to promote a relaxed feeling in our safe space, our fortress, our cocoon.
I've walked into people's homes and just with a quick view around their home or office surroundings, I can tell what their mind state is like.
Messy spaces = stress, inability to focus, difficulty reaching goals, worry, overthinking
Clean spaces = less stress, ability to focus on tasks, focused on solutions, ability to problem-solve
There are exceptions to this, however. Some people take it overboard in the 'control' areas, but as a general rule, a tidy home = a tidy mind.
Also, the textures in your home will make you feel either stressed or relaxed.
Scents will also have an effect on your state of mind.
The music you hear will either relax you or stress you. Classical and New Age music has been proven to calm the mind, whereas, Heavy Metal and Rap have the opposite effect.
Sight is related to the chaos or organization in the home, which, as mentioned above, affects and reflects your state of mind. Hoarding = unease, imbalance, lack of joy and dissatisfaction.
Lastly, the foods you eat also have an effect on mental health. Clean, healthy foods = improved mental health. Junk food = worry and sadness.
Did this bring up any "AHA" moments for you?
Comment, "YES" below if you'd like to learn how to be more in balance.
