I’ve always loved polka dots. They’re fun and classic. So, time for a few fun fashion facts about Polka Dots!

-This pattern received its name from the mid 19th century polka dance craze.
-Made popular in the 20th century by Christian Dior and Minnie Mouse , and became a staple in pin-up fashion during the 1950’s and 60’s.
-Often spotted (😉) on starlets like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.
-In the UK it’s often called “spot print” and in France, “pois”.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the women!

I started the year off with intention and focus and am so excited about the things I am working on! I’ve somehow found more joy in what I do and am filled with creativity. I’m teaching evening sewing classes for adults and I truly enjoy it! Also….I made this dress…Just for me :) I had to go back to the beginning, to the reason I do what I do. To the joys of designing and bringing the design to life. This dress is a few of my favorite things; corsetry, stars and chicness .

Designing and creating is a beautiful mashup of stress and joy and fear and excitement. It can be absolute chaos but it’s magical and beautiful and I love it. So, what goes into designing a garment? Time. Time to get the idea for the design, mockup the design, choose fabric , make, fit, tweak, finish the design…. A little blood, sweat and tears. Next, questioning whether or not it’s good enough and/or finished. Fear. Fear it won’t be well received or that you will not make a profit but you take the risk and do it anyway because it’s not just about the money. You love what you do. It’s about quality over quantity. Tally your time and materials and give it a price. Question that price. Realize you’re over thinking as usual, get passed it and put it out into the world because your client is waiting…and they also love what you do. When that’s done, you do it all over again because at the end of the day, it’s your passion and true calling🖤

I love fashion. It allows you to show who you are without saying a word. You choose your style. I love designing. It’s a euphoric feeling when the ideas flow. I love sewing and I love seeing the finished product. Seeing it come to life is amazing. But what I love most of all, is seeing people wearing and loving the designs🖤🖤🖤
