She is the sole proprietor of Chavah Designs - being the one who designs, makes, packages + ships all of your garments and accessories. She has always been drawn to making and creating - her Mom (who funny enough, despised sewing) taught Chavah to sew when she was 7 & she hasn't stopped since! Chavah was more formally trained at New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in Frederict

on, New Brunswick and then continued on to Humber College in Toronto, Ontario. She now creates high quality custom garments from her studio in Saint John, New Brunswick.

The goal with this piece was to reflect the rugged, layered textures of the Bay of Fundy coastline. It took mannnyyy hours to fold, structure, and build this silhouette to replicate the way the water moves and the tides pull.

Proof that inspiration really is everywhere when you look at the places that shaped you. 🌊

I tell people all the time that I was painfully shy growing up.

Sometimes they laugh because, well… have you met me? 😂

But I mean it. I barely spoke.

And the thing is, I wanted to.

I had so much to say. I wanted to talk to people, be part of things, put myself out there. I was just so afraid of being judged or saying the wrong thing that most of the time, I stayed quiet.

As a teenager, I started finding pieces of myself through fashion. I definitely wasn’t afraid to wear what I wanted.
But my voice hadn’t caught up yet.

This weekend I was at a family reunion and saw a cousin who remembers me from those years.

At one point he told me he couldn’t get over watching me talk and interact with everyone.

“All I remember is shy Chavah. I think I’ve heard you speak more this weekend than I did your whole life.”

And then he said,
“You did it. I’m so proud of you.”

That stayed with me. 🥹

Because I don’t think I’d ever stopped to look at who I am now through the eyes of someone who only remembered me then.

I was finding my voice long before I knew how to use it. 🤍

Four days. I cannot believe how much these girls learned!! 🥹

They started with an idea and learned how to actually take it through the design process.

Concepts and vision boards. Sketching. Fabric choices. Patterns. Cutting. Construction. Fittings. Changes along the way. And finally, getting to put on something that started entirely in their own heads!

Four girls & four completely different finished looks. Exactly as it should be. 🖤

And because you can't finish Fashion Designer Week without a photoshoot... we ended with one. Or two. Or four. 😂

They absolutely SHOWED UP this week and I loved getting to share this part of my world with them.

And I get to do it all over again next week! I have **one spot left** for Fashion Designer Week, August 25–29. ✂️
