Frayed Knots Handmade chainmail/scalemail jewelery, and other items I feel like making.. custom work available. What is Paracord?

Paracord (Parachute cord) is a lightweight nylon rope originally used in the suspension lines of parachutes. It comes in a number of different sizes and strengths but the standard is 550, which means one cord can hold up to 550 lbs. The military found it was an effective tool in a variety of situations and it is now often used by civilians as well especially outdoor and hunting enthusiasts. The U

S military standard required that it be made from nylon but other versions of the cord are made with different materials, particularly polyester, which is stiffer and more water resistant than the nylon version. For this reason I use the polyester cord for dog collars and usually nylon for lanyards and bracelets. It comes in a variety of colours and can be used for anything from jewelry to rifle slings, dog collars and key chains. The idea behind the more popular Paracord Survival Bracelets is that you can wear one and always have between 10-20 ft of Paracord available if you need it. When paired with a buckle that includes a powerful whistle, an LED light or a stone & flint, it makes a handy kit of basics for an emergency situation that takes up very little room.
