I finally had a chance to take some nice photos of my Valentine's Day gift (a month later) πŸ’•

This is "Steeltown" by Odd Cat Yarn β€” a Hamilton-inspire yarn from a Hamilton-based dyer!

The little cake of mohair is "Eclipse" by Viola Yarns that I bought originally on LYS Day (2023, I think) to use in a pair of socks, but just look at how perfectly it goes with Steeltown! Unfortunately, Emily is no longer dyeing yarn, but if anyone happens to have a Mohair Mini or Mohair Lace skein in this colourway lying around, I would love to buy it off you! I only have the one 20 g mini skein, so I'll have to be a bit creative with how I use it if I can't get more (because I'm now set on using these together).

Yarns:

"Steeltown" 80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, 10% silver stellina fi*****ng weight yarn (the last image is my attempt at getting the stellina to show on camera)

100% wool socks πŸ‘

I've been working on an extra durable heel/ toe design to improve the longevity of 100% wool socks. After I've finished the toe of sock #2, I'll be putting this pair through their paces to see how well they hold up. I'm extremely happy with the fit! (These are probably the best fittings socks I've made for myself). I'll call for testers once I'm satisfied with the pattern, then it will be available for free online and as a paid .pdf download. As with all my patterns, this will also be available in visually accessible formats (both free online and paid .pdf downloads).

Also! While my patterns are still available on Ravelry, I have recently shut down my personal website and made the switch to Ko-fi. I'm hoping to be fully set-up for sales by Friday (website name is still the same and my username is the same across all platforms that I use). Additionally, I'll be setting up a blog in the near future for sharing free patterns and talking all about yarn (especially those from local and Canadian dyers).

My very first spin, finally plied 🩷🧑🧢

The first 26g of a 140g braid. It's pretty uneven, ranging from a fi*****ng weight in some sections up to a worsted weight in others, but overall I'm quite happy with how it looks now that it's plied! You can really see my learning curve, especially if you compare this to my last post (where the single is much more consistent and thin). I've been finding that it's easier for me to draft for a thin single than something thicker, but I'm hoping to work on that so I can spin more than just lace and fi*****ng weight yarns.

Thistledown Sizing + Yarn Requirements

Size: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9, 10)

Finished Chest Circumference:
32 (36, 40, 44, 48) (52, 56, 60, 64, 68)"

Meant to be worn with 4 - 8" positive ease for a loose (4 - 6") or oversized (6" +) fit.

Pattern also includes instructions for a modified front neck depth, which will make the V neck approximately 3" deeper.

Sample is size 5, worn with 6.5" positive ease at the full chest.

Needles: US 6 / 4 mm + US 4 / 3.5 mm

Gauge: 22 sts Γ— 26 rows in stockinette (flat and in the round, after blocking) on larger needles

Yarn Requirements:

DK weight yarn + lace weight mohair held together = worsted

Total DK Yardage: 1000 (1110, 1280, 1330, 1380) (1450, 1650, 1800, 1950, 2100) yards

Approximately the same yardage of mohair is required.

One or two contrast colours (CC) are used, or you can work CC sections with your main colour (MC) for a solid, no stripes sweater.

Sample is Swish DK in Allspice (MC) and White (CC) held with Aloft Super Kid Mohair in Koi (MC) and White (CC).

To knit this sweater without the mohair, I recommend Swish Worsted.
