📏Flange vs Ni**le Sheild Sizing📏 This can be so confusing for moms (and new IBCLCs) - why is the sizing for my fl**ge different than my ni**le sheild if it’s the *same* nip?!?! This is where knowing why each tool is needed can help.
🔆Ni**le shields are a tool intended to help a baby latch deeply. To do so, baby needs to learn to take a large mouthful of ni**le AND surrounding tissue into her mouth. We size a ni**le sheild to your baby’s mouth. The biggest one their mouth can accommodate.
🔆A fl**ge is the bit your ni**le goes into when pumping. This is new actual research supporting sizing fl**ges to the actual measurement of the base of the ni**le. Unlike when direct feeding, just having the ni**le in the fl**ge increases maternal comfort and milk output! The jury is still out on exactly why this is true but is out there doing the research in real time!

To summarize, same unit of measurement, same nips, different end goal!

👀Eye Contact During Feeds👀 Looking at your baby and engaging with them during feeding time is so important to developing their brain. But let’s face it, sometimes, you need to look away. ✊I protect the family✊ In so many ways my job is to protect your family- protect your wishes from outside pressures, protect your mental health by guiding your journey, protect your milk supply by filtering out mixed messages from social media or well meaning family and friends (sometimes even family doctors). I’m not a father figure, but I’ve got a great B**b Job :)

⭐️INTRODUCING SYDNEY ⭐️

This business of mine has been growing steadily (thanks to YOU!!) and it was time to bring on another LC to support you!

Sydney Poff is a trained Lactation Consultant waiting on her IBCLC results any day now! Sydney trained under the same mentor as myself and I am proud to say I had a wee hand in her training too. Bottom line, I trust Sydney to provide the same level of care as you’re all used to!

Sydney also brings a rich experience as a Full-Spectrum Doula to her work with new parents. She’s calm, smart, and funny, and she’s able to help with all aspects of infant feeding, post-partum, and adjusting to parenthood.

🎉WHAT A FIRST YEAR 🎉 Looking back on this first year as an IBCLC and I cannot believe how much I’ve accomplished! I set a goal to have 100 appointments- crushed it! I saw 109 patients of my own and countless patients through with my mentor and interns. This is all in addition to three Continuing Ed courses and my favorite job of all, being mom to my 8 and 6 year old love puddles!

Looking ahead to 2025 I have big plans too! I’ve got two courses ready to launch and capacity to take on more clients as I have steady babysitters in my neighborhood (moms, we know what a win that is!)

All of this is only possible because of the trust you all place in me! It’s a privilege to support families in these early days post-partum (and many of you, well beyond!) I cannot thank you enough for this trust! Love ya, mean it!

🍸Cousin Brandi with an I🍸 This year, Aunt Mabel is bringing a guest to Christmas holidays, Cousin Brandi! She doesn’t tell anyone her real age, but it certainly isn’t the 29 she tells you.

Cousin Brandi peaked in high school, her claim to fame is that she’s a two-time Spring Break Wet T-Shirt Contest Winner in Pensacola, Florida. She still thinks Cosmos are the chicest cocktail, loves a push up bra, and got her lips and t**s done on a Bogo coupon. She’s Cousin Brandi.

Cousin Brandi will pass the potatoes, flirt with your husband and judge your parenting loudly (despite having no children of her own). She only dates men with initials for names and mommy issues. She’s Cousin Brandi.

👈Out with the Old and In with the New 👉 The New Year is laid out like a fresh slate before us, let’s abandon those habits that don’t serve us and leave them in the dust of last year. Though I’m not a ‘new’ mom anymore, I’m still guilty of a few of these *internet diagnosing* so I’ll be in the trenches with ya!

🔔 2024 Word of the Year 🔔 New year’s resolutions are historically a flop for me (I still bite my nails and swear profusely!) I hopped on the word of the year bandwagon last year with my promise to Glimmer and I think I achieved it! This year, my word is Rise. To rise to the challenge of this new role. To rise out of old habits into a shinier version of myself. To rise alongside my colleagues as we make shifts for all. To rise to any occasion that offers growth for myself, my family and my business.

First, I’m starting out the year as an IBCLC (my dream job that I didn’t even know was a job until 7 years ago!). To align with providers in the Greater Hamilton Area, I’ve had to adjust my pricing. Yes it’s a bit more than my pricing has been previously, but here are some ways you can add it into your budget
🔅Register for a Prenatal Package for your shower
🔅Check your benefits, most often you can claim under a HSA or have stand alone IBCLC coverage
🔅Check your email if you’re a past client for a rebate code to share with your next referral or save for yourself if you’re having a baby in 2024
