This post has been a couple-months coming but today feels like the right time. In memory of the sweetest Airin of NEWOLD'S who had such a beautiful effect on this world. I met Airin in 2013 when we both opened our shops within a month of each other. She was an instant friend with her warm energy, silly demeanor, and passion for the most special vintage. We were supports of eachother in those first few years of business and I felt so lucky to have such a cool and encouraging pal who could relate to the same challenges, wins, and moments of this small biz life. she was so so so so so special ~ and made such an impact on our city in the few years she was here. I really have been reflecting on all the people, customers, community members she touched through her unforgettable presence, her special way of making you feel seen, her weird and wonderful vintage finds that became your favourites, her cozy and inspiring space, and her ability to always show up with a smile. There truly was no one like her! There’s a lot to say and I know many people who are grieving and I know I can’t get everything down here. But for now I’ll just share that one of my most special memories of Airin is the little check-ins I’d get with her after she left Hamilton. Anytime I was putting together an event (Hamilton flea, or a different pop up) she was the first person I’d email- hoping she’d come visit for the day and bring her wonderful wares! She was always game and I loved these little recurring moments with her over our lives and business journeys. Also can’t believe how many of my most special pieces were from her~ truly the best eye for vintage of anyone I’ve ever known in real-life. I’ll think about her often and so many places in Hamilton remind me of her. Here’s hoping everyone who loved her can reflect on how special it was that we got to know her! rest in vintage-hunting peace, sweet Airin. 🌹 a few photos I took of her over the years (except the newolds sign ones which I had to share from her insta because they needed to be remembered).
