Why do piercings take longer to heal than you think?
Because healing isnāt just about closing the hole, it is about rebuilding complex tissue structures from scratch.
Want your piercing to heal faster? Here are some tips:
š§¼ Keep it clean! Use sterile saline (available in store)1-2x a day. Skip alcohol, peroxide, and harsh cleansers - they can irritate healing tissue.
š Hands off. Donāt twist, spin or play with your piercing. And always wash your hands before touching your piercing.
š“ Donāt sleep on it. Pressure and friction are major irritation culprits - especially with ear piercings. We recommend sleeping with a travel pillow if you are a side sleeper.
š Leave the jewelry in. Donāt remove or change the jewelry too early.
š Avoid soaking while it is fresh. Be cautious with pools, hot tubs, lakes and baths while your piercing is healing.
š§“ Watch your products. Keep makeup, skin care, hair products and lotions away from the piercing as much as possible.
šTake care of you. Good sleep, hydration and nutrition give your body what it needs to do the actual healing.
ā ļø And remember, a piercing can look healed on the outside before it is fully healed on the inside. Be patient!
