Faith, Fellowship & Fabric

A group of incredible women from a local church group came together with hearts full of love and hands ready to work. 💖 These beautiful quilts were made with prayer, purpose, and a whole lot of compassion.

For some of the ladies working on these quilts, it was their very first time creating quilt blocks and I think they caught the bug! I get so excited when new quilters enjoy the art of quilting! They had fabric left over so they even made their own “jelly roll” strips to create the backing-that’s pretty ambitious for first time quilters! We decided to turn the “backing” into a secondary quilt-two quilts for the price of one sounds pretty good to me!

I opted for an all over free motion design that was hand guided on my 26” Gammill using Glide thread with Hobbs Batting.

Crossed Paths Again…

Life is funny sometimes.

Back in the 80’s (yes, I am that old), my parents moved back to the first home they built in Iroquois. At the time, I was not impressed as being an introvert, I had to start another new school. It was the middle of the school year when I was in grade 2 & this was the 3rd time since kindergarten that I had to start another new school. It’s tough to show up to a new school in the middle of the school year & even harder when you are shy. I don’t remember how long after moving back to Iroquois that I made new friends but one of my new friends was Wendy. Wendy lived at the end of our road & we became instant friends riding the school bus together & playing at each other’s homes after school, weekends, summer holidays etc…We remained friends all through public school & high school. Sadly after high school we lost touch with each other-remember, cell phones didn’t exist back then nor did email-told you I was old lol! Fast forward 30 years later & our paths cross again! Wendy started working at the same hospital where I work & as we are getting reacquainted, we find out we both love to quilt! How neat is that! Our life paths took us in different directions only to bring us back together again all these years later!

This is one of Wendy’s quilts that she pieced & was the first quilt that I quilted on my new Statler!! Being this quilt was going to a wee one, I opted for a cute little baby motif edge to edge. Glide thread was used along with Hobbs 80/20 batting. Isn’t this quilt adorable!!

Thank you Wendy for trusting me to quilt my first computerized quilt on your art piece! And now thanks to Facebook, cell phones & quilting, Wendy & I will never loose touch again!

Who else has squirrel 🐿️ brain? I always have a plan, but then something distracts me & it turns out to be months before I get back to it! 💬 = “Oh, I’ll do that when sitting & relaxing at the end of the day” = oops, that didn’t happen!Well, this is one of those moments

Let me introduce you to Vera’s Alaska quilt ❤️ This beauty she made for her sister & I had the pleasure of custom quilting it for her.

Quilts with white fabric against coloured fabric can be daunting to not have the pressed seams show through after it has been quilted. But Vera, who is the President (I elected her to the position 😆) of the Perfect Piecer Club, masters it! I challenge you to see if you can see which way she pressed her seams as when having points meet up, you cannot always press to the dark side…

I love how this quilt has different patterns within depending on how you look at it…there are circles but then there are stars. There are curves but they are straight lines…can you see that too?

All quilting was hand guided on my 26” Gammill. Thank you Vera for another masterpiece!

I knew I was behind in posting finished customer quilts, but I didn’t think I was THIS behind!

This quilt top was pieced by Janet & I love the “pillow” top that she added to finish the top!

The colours on this quilt are perfect for a cozy fall snuggle by the fire which is also the pattern she chose to go with for the quilting too! All quilting is hand guided on my 26” Gammill.

One of my favourite things about quilting is knowing that quilts are made with love, and that love gets to be passed down, hopefully from generation to generation. I love when I have the opportunity to quilt on heirloom pieces that were passed down by generations not yet finished.

I recently had the chance to complete these quilts for one of my dearest friends, affectionately known to me as Crazy Lady (CL). It was fun to see her reminisce over the different fabrics in each quilt as these quilts were pieced, and in some cases hand stitch together, by her grandmother. Back in those days, as we all know, quilts were made from used clothing, and to hear her talk about where this piece of fabric came from and how she remembered seeing that person wear it, brings an extra special touch to the quilt. As a thank you to me for finishing the quilts for her, she wanted me to have one. This meant the world to me as I know how special heirloom quilts are and more importantly, it was a gift from her. I told her I would accept her gift under the condition that I would only take it when she was done using it. As I sit on this dreary, rainy day under her quilt, I am reminded again of the love that has been sewn into this quilt top from the people who wore these fabrics to CL’s grandmother, who sewed the fabrics together, to her daughter who held on to the tops to pass them on to her daughter, so that they could be finished and passed down to her daughter and granddaughter and also me. Quilts are priceless, the time spent in making it is priceless, the joy on the recipients face receiving this love is priceless.

Take the time and make the effort to do something you love each and every day, as you never know who that will impact down the road and when you might lose that opportunity. And always take the time to tell those you love that you love them as you never know when you won’t have the chance to tell them again.

I have discovered that I have a love-hate relationship with social media…I love the inspiration I find but I hate the time to takes to curate the “perfect” post so I just don’t post what I am working on or have completed. Then before you know it, so much time has gone by that I think why bother? I have decided that is silly thinking so I am just going to post even if it’s not “perfect”.

But speaking of perfect, here is Vera’s latest…it’s perfect!

I recently purchased a laser level (game changer!!) & even the laser said Vera’s piecing is perfect 🤩

Vera just wanted a meander with a few hearts thrown in so thankfully she had perfect rows of hearts to replicate!

Thanks for stopping by!
