May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. I painted my toes lime green specifically for the occasion (see photo in the comments). Kamloops Walk for Lyme Jen’s Journey is taking place this Sunday 11 am at the Riverside Park Bandshell. Come on out and learn about tick borne disease from those whose lives have been affected. Who doesn't like a good documentary?! This one is both entertaining and informative. This documentary backed up hundreds of hours of my research when I wanted to know how the diagnosis was missed for more than ten years!

This is an award-winning documentary on Lyme disease, Under our Skin. It is highly informative and eye-opening. In 2015, a followup documentary was released called Under our Skin 2 Emergence. (It can be found online for purchase and download, or on disk format at your local library.)

In order to understand how we got to where we are in Canada with respect to this disease, it is important to know the history of the disease in the USA. I’d like to take a moment to remind our followers that March is National Tick Awareness Month. Ticks are active at 4 deg. Celsius coinciding with the snow melt. The Ixodes tick that is well known to carry Lyme disease, is the size of a poppy seed.

The veterinarian community in our country has launched a campaign to educate pet owners across the country. Ticks can be active in every season, any day when temperatures reach 4 degress Celcius and above. Ticks favour moist climates. This is one of the reasons they are so prevalent when the snow melts.

This year's campaign, kicking off on March 1, 2024, in intended to inform the public that many ticks may be Fitter, Better, Faster and Stronger. For more information, go to >>>

One of our customers stopped by Runner Sole the other day to pick up her memory quilt. She has a spectacular assortment of event history. My first memory quilt was made for my sister in similar events of marathon and triathlon.
