25 years later, the sacrifice of September 11 continues to be felt.

We remember the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice that day, the 453 FDNY members who have since died from 9/11-related illnesses, and the nearly 5,000 who have been diagnosed with 9/11-related cancer.

We honour those lost, those still fighting, and every first responder whose life was forever changed by that day.

Never forget.

Our mission doesn’t end at our city limits.

The Bradley Creek, Quilpituk Creek, and Pear Lake wildfires are affecting families and communities across BC.

Yesterday, 25 members of the Kelowna Fire Department were deployed to support wildfire operations.

Wherever help is needed, we’ll be there.

Today, the Kelowna Fire Department proudly graduates 11 new firefighters who have successfully completed an intensive eight-week recruit training program and are now joining our Suppression Division.

Over the past two months, these recruits have demonstrated dedication, resilience, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to serving our community. They have worked extremely hard to reach this milestone, but as every firefighter knows, this is only the beginning. The real work starts now as they continue to learn, grow, and serve alongside the members of the Kelowna Fire Department.

Emergency response is built on teamwork. From critical medical calls to major incidents, firefighters and paramedics work side by side to deliver rapid, professional care when seconds matter most.

Did you know? Kelowna firefighters operate up to the scope of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), with many members also licensed as Primary Care Paramedics. 🚒🚑

Happy Mother’s Day from the members of Kelowna Firefighters IAFF Local 953. ❤️

Today, we recognize and celebrate all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and mother figures who give so much of themselves every single day.

To the moms working behind the scenes, holding families together through long shifts, missed holidays, late nights, and early mornings, thank you. Your strength, patience, sacrifice, and unconditional support never go unnoticed.

And to the firefighter and dispatch moms serving our community while raising families of their own, we are especially grateful for everything you do both at home and on the front lines.
