This is your reminder that shopping local doesn’t have to be inconvenient.

If you can walk from the back of the Walmart parking lot, you can walk a few more blocks to shop the businesses that make downtown Kenora what it is.

We’re not asking you to choose local every time. We’re asking you to remember us sometimes.

Because behind every little shop is a person who took a chance, pays employees, supports other local businesses, sponsors your kids’ teams, donates to your community, and pours their heart into keeping our downtown alive.

One of my favourite things about owning Poplar + Birch is getting to shop my own closet for family photos. I love having so many pieces I genuinely love to choose from, especially when they can be worn again and again.

Caring about fashion isn’t materialistic.

We talk about self-care as going to the gym, going to therapy, eating well, getting enough sleep — and those things matter deeply.

But I think there’s another piece we don’t talk about enough: how you feel when you get dressed.

What you put on every day may not matter as much as your physical or mental health, but it still matters. Because putting on something you feel beautiful, confident and like yourself in can genuinely change the way you feel — and the way you show up in the world.

Fashion isn’t about impressing other people.
It’s about expressing yourself.
It’s about feeling good in your own skin.

Maybe fashion can be a third pillar of self-care.

And you deserve to get dressed for yourself.
