Well, today’s run was more exciting than usual.

I came around a bend and found myself face to face with a large black bear about 30 feet away. We both seemed equally surprised. He stopped, looked at me, calmly turned around and headed back into the woods.

I’ve been coming to our cabin in the Adirondacks every summer for 14 years and somehow this was my first bear sighting here.

I’ve been thinking about it all day. Encounters like this are a reminder of why I love it here so much. The wildness, the quiet, and the feeling that nature is still very much in charge.

The Adirondacks are AWESOME . 🌲🐻.

Fall always does this to me — it draws me inward. The air cools, the light softens, and suddenly all I want is to disappear into my studio and paint, sew, dream… and forget about the world for a while.
Yet, this year more than ever, I feel an undercurrent — a quiet unease in the world that I can’t quite name. Maybe that’s why I’m even more compelled to create. To hold on to beauty. To make something grounding, human, tangible.
I feel steady in my work, but restless in life — unsure where I’ll choose to land in the next few years. Maybe that’s okay. Maybe fall is the reminder that change, too, can be beautiful. 🍂
