The bride didn't even realize it was like that until I had pointed it out.

Just a proof-of-life post as the wedding prep season is in full swing and it's pretty hard for me to post much at the moment.

This can happen with a very fitted dress. It's hard for fabric with no stretch at all to fit your curves like a glove without wanting to scrunch up at some points.

With this dress, all of it's original boning is right above the waist, but the scrunching is right below that.
So we added some custom boning to fix this problem and it did its job so nicely.

And it's a really great example of the most popular bustle right now - the ballroom or hem bustle.
Such a long train can be bustled up so discreetly and seamlessly making the train essentially invisible (though I'm sure she felt the weight of it still).

This style of dress is also so popular right now and so I'm installing this bustle a lot lately. I always love how it turns out 💕

This is actually my old wedding dress bought more than a decade ago. It was also bought off the rack, which means that it already had some years on it even before I bought it. So I'd estimate that this dress is ~15 years old.

I recently took it out after 10 years of being in storage.

And now that I've had experience working with hundreds of wedding dresses, different things stood out to me right away. The bottom line is, for the same price, it would be impossible in today's economy to get a dress of this quality. AND they simply don't make dresses the same anymore.

What I talked about here is just one small example out of the many other more obvious things that this dress shows its age and quality (eg. Beading style, lace details, etc).

So if you're able to find a dress that's 10-15 ish years old for a decent price and you love the design, then honestly maybe you're getting a better deal buying one brand new.

Some dresses that I've done were so large on the bride that I basically had to remake a whole different pattern on the sides with the appliques because the original design doesn't fit after it's been taken in.

You can find great deals if buying sample dresses instead of ordering brand new, but don't get hustled into buying a dress that doesn't fit you to the point where your alterations costs become completely out of budget!!
