Today, January 4, 2026, marks the 4th year since Canada established the National Ribbon Skirt Day.

National Ribbon Skirt Day is celebrated annually in Canada on January 4th, as a day to honor Indigenous women, girls, and gender-diverse people, recognizing their culture, identity, and strength, inspired by the experience of Isabella Kulak, a young Indigenous girl who was shamed for wearing her handmade ribbon skirt to school.

We honour Isabelle Kulak from Cote First Nation, whose courage in speaking out against discrimination sparked a powerful movement celebrating First Nations cultural pride and identity.

The ribbon skirt is a sacred symbol of heritage, strength, and connection to Mother Earth. On this day for reconciliation and education, we invite you to learn about this important tradition and its significance within Indigenous cultures.

Please note that all of our ribbon skirts are handmade by myself a proud Cree woman. All skirts are available for $20 in sizes fitting waist from 9inches to 15inches (length 16inches).
