Today, finally, Canada is honouring Indigenous survivors and the children who disappeared from the residential school system.
The horrors and abuse these children and their families endured for more than 150 years, and the generational trauma it continues to leave in its wake, are finally being recognized.
Today, we wear orange, for those who survived, and those who never returned home to their families.
We must continue to educate. Educate ourselves and our children. Understand the implications and call on the Canadian government to do more more for Indigenous communities with regards to addiction and mental health, homelessness, discrimination, respecting their identity and acknowledging Indigenous lands.
