January 2019 I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a full time small business owner. I had made the difficult decision to quit my job as a Project Manager (which for the most part I enjoyed doing). I started Feign as a side hustle online for 2 years (since 2017) while working a full time job. Feign had been doing exponentially well for two years and I remember coming home from work at 6-7pm and then working through dinner while following my dream as a business owner until 2-3am to build the business.
I was burnt out, and I had to make a hard choice. Do I leave a job that had financial security and pursue a career with unknown financial stability?
After talking to my husband who has supported me through everything. The answer was easy...
I took a leap of faith and decided to take on the world and become my own boss.
Two years ago today, I officially opened my retail store in Port Credit. What an incredible milestone it was and a year of new beginnings! We also announced that very same day to close friends and family that we were expecting our first baby in August 2019!
They say it takes a village to raise a child and my village of support (all of you reading this) had not only helped through my first 2 years of being a new mom, but helped me in pursuing my professional dream as well and I wouldn’t be where I am without my family and friends’ support - near or far.
The day after my Birthday on my Grand Opening, my friends and family had put together funds as a gift for a neon sign that I wanted to get made to put up at my store. With all the circumstances of operating a retail store, having a newborn, and then Covid-19 in 2020, the neon sign was put on hold. But I’m proud to say that it is finally complete! No matter how hard the year 2020 has been financially, the funds that my friends and family put together to create this sign was literally the light at the end of the tunnel for me this year and kept my hopes high on reopening and getting through this tough time!
I wanted to thank my village of support for this amazing gift! As every time I look at it, I know that I have the biggest supporters behind me!
