Sweet Paprika Designs is a Montreal-based small business providing hand-dyed yarns, kits, and knitti

Started in 2007 by sisters Elizabeth and Debbie Sullivan as a way to fund their fibre habit, Sweet Paprika has grown and the business now includes hand-dyed yarn, kits, patterns and classes. Our goal is to make beautiful yarns that complement any knitting or crochet project. We also strive to create patterns that are wearable, fun to make, and classically stylish. Since moving to Montreal in 2008

we’ve been building our community of fellow fibre enthusiasts here, and have taught many new friends to knit and crochet. Please note, our studio location is open for yarn pickups by appointment only. Please contact us by email ([email protected]) if you're thinking of dropping by.

Today's pattern inspiration for our new Toccata organic cotton is... the Hipster Top by Joji Locatelli.

The Hipster Top is worked from the top down, starting with a fun
crossed-stitch detail. The body is worked in a stripe pattern with a V
neckline, joined in the round at the underarms, and once you cast off at
the hem you're done - no finishing required!

We think this top would look great in a classic grey/white combo with Natural and Clouds in my Coffee, or a subtle blue-one-blue stripe with Clair de Lune and Feather Canyons. For bolder stripes and a punchier look we love Ice Cream Castles and Purple People Eater together too!

Our next pattern idea for our new Toccata organic cotton yarn is the Dawning Top by Ainur Berkimbayeva.

The Dawning Top is a sweet halter top worked from the top down, with
radiating spokes and eyelets symbolizing the sun's rays. The pattern
includes options for cropped, full length and tunic length versions. You'll need between 2 and 8 skeins of Toccata for this pattern, depending on the length and size chosen (the pattern goes up to 64¼"/163cm finished chest measurement).

We think this top would be brilliant in our sunny Yellow Submarine colourway! Our other top colour choices are Purple People Eater for a rich and vibrant colour, or Feather Canyons if you're looking for a softer choice.

We think our new Toccata cotton yarn would be a great choice for a summer top or tee, so we've rounded up a few patterns to get you inspired!

First up is the Wild Flowers Tee by Tif Neilan. Wild Flowers is a drop-shoulder tee worked from the top down, featuring a lace pattern on the front yoke. This pattern would be lovely in a single colour, or you could liven it up by working the lace portion in a contrasting colour.

Toccata est un fil de coton biologique à deux brins, d’une douceur exquise et avec un éclat subtil. D’une épaisseur « sport » légère, il permet d’obtenir un joli tissu, aussi bien au tricot qu’au crochet. Il peut être travaillé plus ouvert pour un effet drapé, ou plus serré pour des projets structurés.

Toccata est un fil en édition limitée et chaque couleur est unique (nous n'avons pas noté les recettes) ; nous ne les réapprovisionnerons donc pas une fois qu'ils seront épuisés.

Toccata is a beautifully soft 2-ply organic cotton yarn with a subtle sheen. It's a light sport weight that creates a lovely fabric in both knitting and crochet. It can be worked up at a loose gauge for increased drape, or more tightly for structured projects.

This is a limited-edition yarn and each colourway is one-of-a-kind (we didn't write down the recipes), so we won't be restocking them once they are sold out.
