Warrior n Tipis
Est.

Before Columbus

Oki my name is Joseph Little Plume/No Chief and I'm from the Piikani Nation in Southern Alberta. WarKry Wear is the name of my business and is also associated with the 'Warriors n Tipis Est. Before Columbus' Residing in Northern Alberta I've had numerous inquiries about the name WarKry Wear, learning what War Cry means in Cree is Sakaway which many in the public recognize me in t

he Rounddance and my singing. I chose to keep the name in English as there is many different ways to spell Warkry in Cree and therefore kept it Universal for all to recognize. Also the word 'War cry' is spelled 'WarKry' which also makes the name unique and able to stand out which many who have supported with past purchases certainly do. To stand out and bring awareness on our First Nations past, present and promising future. I was thinking one day on a short saying that would really open perspectives about First Nations everywhere on Turtle Island. It started with a t shirt with 'Warriors n Tipis Est. Before Columbus' in Spring of 2017 which wearing it sparked a lot interest over the next couple years. I sat on the idea of having more that t shirts but maybe sweaters and so I had some made Fall 2019 and as soon as I advertised they were immediately purchased with such a positive response to the meaning. I want to thank all those that have supported by purchasing WarKry Wear and wear it proudly, this was just a dream and now I see with my hard work and motivation I see it being successful. I absolutely make NO profit but only wish to bring awareness with First Nations and Non First Nations. What I pay to have products made I what my customers pay.

Those that don’t the meaning of this design ‘Strong Spirits’ here is the story.

Few years ago I hung my Every Child Matters flag on my balcony in Morinville at our home. We got a call from the land lord to have it taken down. ‘It was a good cause and we allowed you to have it up but now the movement is done it has to come down. Also it isn’t a positive image for the front of our building.’
I came up with this design through re thinking my response with support n calmness from my late Dad Herman No Chief.
The 11 hearts represent the 11 treaties across Canada impacted from the Canadian Residential School Era. The hearts vary in size smallest to larger symbolizing the different ages of children who never came home.
The hand print originally suggested by my Dad which he said ‘All Children Matter no one shoulda went thru what we went thru. Always educate wherever you can Son.’
The two feathers are in memory of the boys and girls who never came home.
Just a little story of behind this beautiful peice.

Beautiful n our finished painting.
Amidst the request to remove my Every Child Matters flag from my patio once again I thought of many solutions n will continue on n so here is my therapy for a challenge I’m facing.
My teachings are deep with the buffalo n how it never turns away from a storm it heads straight through much like us human beings facing daily challenges n this resembles today.
We are faced with challenges whatever it may be yet we do not falter nor give up.
The footprints n handprints stand for who I’m doing this all for, the recovered children, the elders who still live the trauma of this evil era, n most of all to still raise awareness to never forget n educate those who don’t know of the Residential School Era.
