Most people look at a finished wallet and see the leather. I look at how it was built.

If a wallet feels chunky or awkward in your pocket, some steps were probably skipped. That’s where the skiving comes in. I use a thickness gauge and a skiving knife to take the leather down to the decimal point.

It’s a slow, manual process, but it’s the only way to get those edges to sit flush without the bulk.

The goal? A slim profile that doesn't sacrifice strength.

Look at the zipper window and the card slot alignment. There’s no "close enough" If your layout is off by even a millimeter, the whole thing looks off. Precise assembly means every pocket sits right and every stitch line stays dead straight.

A lot of leathercraft is really just patience—doing the invisible work so the final piece feels perfect.

This case has been around alot longer than I have.
60 years of use, stories and careful hands before mine.

The zipper was the only thing that finally gave out - so I'm replacing it by hand, slowly and with the same respect the original craftsman put into it.

I don't usually take on repairs, but this one mattered.
Work like this deserves time, focus with no shortcuts.

Started a new project today: replacing the zipper on a gun case handmade in 1968. 🕰️ Nearly 60 years later, the leather, stitching, and overall craftsmanship have held up beautifully—the only thing that gave out was the zipper.

I’m swapping it for a larger solid brass zipper, which should not only last longer but make it smoother and easier to use. I don’t usually take on repairs, but this one is for a close friend and his family, and it’s truly an honor to work on something with this level of craftsmanship.

It’s a reminder that quality lasts—and sometimes, a little care and attention is all it takes to keep something going for another 60 years.

Each stitch is a small conversation between me and the leather.

Too tight, and the leather pulls. Too loose and it won't hold.
One mistake and I start over.

Its slow, tedious and it costs more than mass produced machine made leather goods

But every stitch matters. Every one is part of why this wallet will last many years not months.
