Most people look at a finished wallet and see the leather. I look at how it was built.
If a wallet feels chunky or awkward in your pocket, some steps were probably skipped. That’s where the skiving comes in. I use a thickness gauge and a skiving knife to take the leather down to the decimal point.
It’s a slow, manual process, but it’s the only way to get those edges to sit flush without the bulk.
The goal? A slim profile that doesn't sacrifice strength.
Look at the zipper window and the card slot alignment. There’s no "close enough" If your layout is off by even a millimeter, the whole thing looks off. Precise assembly means every pocket sits right and every stitch line stays dead straight.
A lot of leathercraft is really just patience—doing the invisible work so the final piece feels perfect.
