Understand this, my good people - Lakers through the ice on the Bay of Quinte are nearly as mythical as the hairy, ape lookin’ fella that wonders around the bush and has large feet. Then to hook one on fairly light tackle in the shallows where the perch were roaming AND LAND IT!?... 🤯 Yup, my mind officially detonated right there.

Unbelievable catch. Unbelievable story and an unbelievable memory. Congratulations!

So, did we tell you about Sunday? Well, sit down and have a listen. This might get lengthy. 📖

This winter has SUCKED. (For ice fisherman) Conditions have been a more wild ride than the Great Canadian Mine Buster up at that place in Vaughan.

We were fortunate enough to sneak down to the Bay of Quinte before Christmas, but hadn’t been yet in 2020.

We hummed and hawed for the last few weeks. We read all the reports and watched the weather...hell, we’ve even tied and retired all the rods and re charged the flashers just to pass the time.🤓

FINALLY, we decided to make a run down to see the ice for ourselves.
Sunday - Leave at 3:30am, check some spots at first light and if it’s too skinny, Big Bay aparently has great ice.

Spudding our way was crucial. We walked near spots with less than 4”, but finally found a home on an area that was a little thicker.

12:00 noon - Jordan gets bit off clean with a 16lb leader. 😳

He reties, gets back down and BOOM! LOTS OF WEIGHT HERE! What happened? AN 11.5lb PERSONAL BEST...THATS WHAT! *borat voice - high fiiiivvve*😋

There was a flurry of action until about 2PM. We iced a few more including a really healthy 8.25lb’er. Also lost one at the ice...Total angler error...Rookie move trying to rush things.

There was a lull until the golden hour before dark. This was Randy’s time to shine! He iced 2 fish within 15 minutes of each other including another really chunky fish. It’s back was as black as the midnight sky, sides so golden i’d call them 25 Karrot, and a bright white belly. Absolutely perfect colouring.🎨

PHEW....WHAT. A. DAY.

When you fish Quinte you cannot expect numbers, but the exchange is the potential for world class size. On Sunday the ice fishing Gods were looking down on us because as far as our personal experience goes, we had both numbers and size.

This was a day we will remember as long as we fish.
