One of my final projects before the end of first term. Copper, silver, brass and an onyx stone with a bezel setting. We also made our own stone setting tool. In my mind it seemed like this pendant would be simple, but not gonna lie, it was another learning curve. I learned to flatten with a hammer BEFORE adding the jump ring. I learned adding a jump ring looks like it should be simple, but isn’t. Took a few tries to get it right. Sanding has been my nemesis and I learned sometimes I use too hard a grit where it is not needed. The best part was using the saw blade to form the trees. Sawing is my favourite thing to come out of the semester. It is therapeutic.

No, I didn’t break my leg, or my ankle. Well, let me rephrase that…I didn’t break anything THIS time. Summer of 2018 I broke my ankle. I chose to undergo the knife to have a total ankle replacement due to chronic arthritis in the ankle. I don’t know if I will have full range of motion but anything is better than what I had. The downside to all this is I am not able to return to 2nd semester of the (year 1) Jewellery/Metal Arts program at NBCCD. Just too big of a surgery and recovery is not as easy as I anticipated. I am saddened the most to not be able to continue with my cohort. Talented, but also just really good people. I enjoyed my time with them and will continue to cheer them on in their future projects. Hoping to pick up where I left off next year. 🤞

This was a project with so many challenges because I had no idea how to create what I saw in my mind. I had a lot of help from my (very patient) teachers and learned many new skills; my favourite being sawing. There was no hesitation in choosing a dragonfly as they remind me of my Dad. He is the reason I followed my passion and took tool and metal in hand. This dragonfly was built in his honour.

This lovely Tree of Life shawl pin was made for an even lovelier friend with a birthday in March. I used aquamarine crystals to represent the March birthstone and bare copper for the metal. I have made Tree of Life pendants, but never a shawl pin so I tried a few different styles before the deciding on the final product. I enjoy challenging myself with new designs!

Sometimes we have to plan things and know exactly the outcome. My favourite projects tend to be unplanned where I am simply following a thought or image that pops into my head. (especially when I know who it’s for) This sparkly plant decoration is made from several gauges of copper wire, crowned with Swarovski crystals. In the center hangs a clear quartz crystal. It is for a dear auntie. She has a sunny personality and always has a big hug for me. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did making it. 💖

A gift for my son. Copper and amethyst, which is the crystal for February, his birth month. The metal and crystal make for a heavy rosary and I think there is comfort in that; kind of like a weighted blanket.

New pattern, first attempt! It turned out OK but it also made me realize I need different tools for dealing with thicker wire. It would make it so much easier. This pattern would be so pretty antiqued. Next one!

Angels and feathers. They just seem to go together. Wire wrapped and hammered. No two are alike.
