Epic quilty crinkle alert! She’s finished and might hold the record for the squishiest quilt I’ve ever made. This slightly larger than queen sized quilt is headed to my grandparents house tomorrow (to be gifted at a distance). My Gran has been heavily hinting at wanting a new quilt for her bed, so I lovingly obliged. The design was inspired by ‘s Flying Geese Variation quilt. helped me pick out the fabrics based on a traditional rose patterned wallpaper border and the amazing paisley longarming was done by . The backing is a peppered cotton wideback which is my new backing favourite because of its softness.

First quilt finish in what seems like forever. Finally done my - what started as having my kids organize my scraps early in lockdown (aka school/colour theory) to playing with my new templates from , and continuing to layer on additional circles when I didn’t feel the block layout was done, this quilt helped me slow down and get rid of a lot of the initial anxiety I had. All scraps, I made sure to use some of the favourites I had kicking around for the circles and 1/4 circles. I also just did a hodgepodge of a binding; started with joining bindings on an angle, then said “this isn’t any kind of properly designed quilt” so then started sewing binding together on the short edge. Just added whatever I wanted to cause no one’s gonna tell me how to sew together my anxiety ridden quarantine quilt! And I probably won’t get angry when my dog chews a hole in it (cause we all know she will). I’ll just keep adding to it. Swipe for my saucy quilt label. Quilting by - I’ll post some of the closeups later that Shelly took right after it came off the long arm.

New product alert! 🚨 I’ve got a number of exciting things to share over the next few weeks and this is one of them! I’ve been IN LOVE with my Imperial snips since they were launched and when I thought of adding snips to sewfine.ca they were (and always will be) my first choice! I’ve brought in both the 3.5” mini snips which are adorable and SUPER sharp, as well as the 5” snips which are the perfect all-purpose size. All come with a 10yr warranty as well, which just makes me love them even more.

Sneak peek at what I call my Quarantine Quilt. This and another quilt were at the spa (aka ‘s place) to get a lovely all-over quilting treatment and are on their way back to me! This quilt encompasses all the crazy feelings I had during the start of lockdown and once the top was finished I lost my sew-jo. I suppose that might happen when so much stress and anxiety goes into making something. Regardless, I’m excited for it to be back so I can finish it. Also, I’m super envious of Shelly’s skills. 📸 & quilting c/o

Nose wires. I thought I could get away without them, but the more we venture out wearing masks the more I realize that I need to use them. Not sure if there is some price gouging going on or other sewing “brands” marking up these little pieces of aluminum, but I thought it was gross. So I ordered far too many and put them up on sewfine.ca and marked them up only to cover the shipping costs. I’ve seen a lot of sewists on FB groups looking for them, so thought I could help. Durable quality - adhesive backing. Standard size. 👍🏻

Big news!!! So we all know that is going to be quite different in 2021, and while I’m sad I won’t be able to meet and hang out with all of you, this has given me a very different opportunity that I’m very excited about! I usually sponsor the Handwork Lounge at QuiltCon, but this upcoming year I’ll be a virtual vendor! And you know I’ll be making at least one custom scent for this event!! 🥳 😱 😻 So stay tuned!!

Tell me what you see. I spent some time this past weekend playing with - fell in love with it after taking ‘s class at - and when I was ironing a few of the pieces I found some SUPER weird faces looking back at me! Is it my brain, or is this a common occurrence?! 😂 I’ll have to post some more later but there’s this creepy cross eating raccoon (at least what it looks like to me), aliens, butterflies and some other cool and completely unintentional images that I’ve found so far. New hashtag or is there one that already exists?!

They’re LIVE!! And beyond fabulous if I can be honest! Introducing my three new Spring 2020 scents to the lineup. Please meet Lush, Peach and Karma. Scent descriptions are available at sewfine.ca!

Also, the latest mending to my king sized is so fun and I’m really digging the layering and over the binding circle - considering how upset I was when my dog chewed the binding, I’m really happy with how it looks now.

A very unscientific explanation for the science behind natural dyeing. Water Ph matters! LOL. See that colour swatch on my container of brazilwood - that’s what colour the fabric ‘should’ be - when this came out of the pot I had that dog-doing-algebra look on my face, then thought, hmm, let me check a book and see if there’s any explanation for that. Discovery - our water is too alkaline for the brazilwood and so naturally shifts the colour. I made a note and carried on. Added a splash of vinegar into the dye, reheated and got the two colours in the second photo. The lighter was untreated, the darker pre-mordanted with alum. Can’t wait to see how these look dried!
